Indiana Gov. Mike Pence: We’re ‘ennobling’ poor people by cutting off food stamps

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/11/indiana-gov-mike-pence-were-ennobling-poor-people-by-cutting-off-food-stamps/

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) explained on Tuesday that a new policy that could cut off food stamps for thousands of people in his state would be “ennobling” for poor people.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration announced last month that beginning in 2015, it would no longer request a waiver to the federal work requirement for certain people who use the SNAP program. Up to 65,000 single Hoosiers could lose food stamp benefits unless they are working 20 hours a week or attending job training....

“How do you feel about people who say you are targeting poor people?” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade asked the governor.

“I’m someone that believes there’s nothing more ennobling to a person than a job,” Pence insisted. “And to make sure that able-bodied adults without dependants at home know that here in the state of Indiana, we want to partner with them in their success.”

This sort of sick, human cruelty is only going to play out more frequently until we start taking back state house, governorships and Congress.

I hope potential Democratic candidates for Governor are storing away ammo like this for 2016.

ETA: Is it too early to order a T-shirt that says "IF YOU VOTE FOR PENCE YOU ARE A HEARTLESS IDIOT" in preparation for 2016?

How about giving them jobs first?
Where are these 65,000 jobs going to come from? Are there that many unfilled jobs in Indiana?

and frankly does almost nothing to balance the budget. If you consider the effects of food stamps on local economies, I'm pretty sure they are on the plus side.

Then there's the moral thing of giving tax breaks to millionaires while people go hungry. How exactly are people supposed to find (and keep) jobs when they have to go without food?

A woman who worked with my wife years ago made about $15,000 a year (basically minimum wage now). She was constantly broke, never had enough to eat, had a car that broke down if you looked hard at it, but she wouldn't go get food stamps because she felt they were immoral. If that's not cultural brainwashing, I don't know what is.
