Think tanks point to Boeing, Ford, GM, Chevron, JPMorgan, Verizon, Citigroup
Seven of the 30 largest U.S. corporations paid more money to their chief executive officers last year than they paid in U.S. federal income taxes, according to a study released on Tuesday that was disputed by at least one of the companies.
Amid talk in Washington about corporate tax reform, the study said the seven companies, which in 2013 reported more than $74 billion in combined U.S. pre-tax profits, came out ahead on their taxes, gaining $1.9 billion more than they owed.
At the same time, the CEOs at each of the seven companies last year was paid an average of $17.3 million, said the study, compiled by two Washington think tanks.
The seven companies cited were Boeing Co, Ford Motor Co, Chevron Corp, Citigroup Inc, Verizon Communications Inc, JPMorgan Chase & Co and General Motors Co.
The Institute for Policy Studies and the Center for Effective Government, the study's co-authors, said its findings reflected "deep flaws in our corporate tax system."

(20,899 posts)doesn't require them to pay taxes like other people or to be held accountable for most of their crimes as it would other people. And some people don't think giant corporations are even people. Geez!

The country in which the company pays its taxes and how much ready it is to pay taxes to the US should be a consideration when granting government contracts to private businesses. The amount of taxes a company pays should count toward points when awarding contracts.

(7,661 posts)for that explanation, I agree with what you wrote. My comment was based on lies told by the GOP and others to protect corporations from taxation. They are people my friend and should pay taxes just like the rest

(57,936 posts)It's especially bad when you think that Boeing gets a lot of government contracts, Chevron benefits from a lot of government tax breaks, Citigroup and the rest of the banking and investment sector including JP Morgan as well as General Motors were bailed out and Verizon gives up our personal internet information to the government. It's disgusting.
Every one of those companies is either getting special breaks or business or goodies from the US taxpayers, but they don't pay a fair share of taxes.
