None of them did anything to fix immigration. What Obama is about to do will not fix immigration. We need to stop talking in terms as if we are fixing it or giving credit to past GOPers for fixing immigration or even giving relief. This peace meal approach has proven to not work. We will do it again and claim a big accomplishment. Then it will be on the back burner just as is has been and we will start to grow a whole new group of people who are viewed by our government as lesser thans. Lots of talking and attempts to score political points while the issue just festers.

If these repubs fixed immigration as stated, who broke it?

This is a way for politicians to score political points while not addressing core problems. Kick the can down the road.

Our immigration policy is brutal. It scars people for life. We are not looking to fix that here. We are looking to put a Band Aid on a gushing wound.

Immigration is good for the economy. That's why politicians in executive roles- presidents and governors- from both parties consistently end up supporting immigration. Ultimately, they are more concerned about, and more accountable for, economic performance than they are about pandering to the anti-immigration crowd.

Even illegal immigration is good for the economy.

Talking to someone I knew to be a rightie, but not a far rightie (or so I thought), I asked him if Obama was lawless and shredding the Constitution because he was a Democrat or because he was black. It got a little heated. After I walked away a woman approached me and told me something I wasn't aware of. She said the reason the wingnut ideas are so embedded is that Fox is free on basic cable. It somewhat explains why people of modest means continually vote against their own self interest. That's all they hear.

military bases, in cars & trucks. It's heard all over & is the ONLY channel in some places (maybe rural).
No wonder the lies & misinformation have spread in 20+ years. On the other hand, MSNBC costs $.
Roger Aile's brainchild. (He first approached Nixon about 'GOP' TV). Second largest shareholder is Saudi.

Practically all Radio is RW Hate Radio now, all over the US esp. after more consolidation 2 years ago.
Unbelievable here, around DC- all RW hate like Michael (Weiner) Savage on prime commute time 4:00, only several music channels, & limited NPR which is has corporate funding now.

A couple giant media corps bought up & own almost all Radio now, stations that used to be local or independent owned. Same with most all TV programming & media now owned by 4-5 major corps- Comcast, Viacom, Disney, News Corp- all after Reagan's disposing of the Fairness Doctrine, FCC changes & deregulation over 30 years. I've read that some radio stations hardy have ANY human staff, everything's piped in from a syndicate with cut-ins to local weather, events.

Last week I listened to a man call in Thom Hartmann's daytime program on FSTV (Free Speech TV Channel) on DISH or online. He makes a trip once a year from Chicago thru Nevada to Texas or CA. Driving through all these areas he heard Nothing But Hate Radio in every place along the way except one small more prog. music station that's difficult to find around Aspen, CO. The caller urged that something be done about this.

If Dems., liberals, progressives don't find a way to counter this influence by establishing quality, affordable & accessible programming on TV, Radio, Print Magazine & Online, AND also work seriously to revive the Sherman Anti-Trust Act through Commerce or FCC then maybe we deserve what we get.

Not everyone is ONLINE seeking out left newsites, IF they even know about them, or can afford Internet & Sirius XM Radio service for several progressive radio talkers in these difficult times. The left is heavy with thinkers & writers but is limited on good live communicators except for a few on MSNBC, & Bill Moyers.

Like others I've mentioned this here recently. Am getting over listening to Dems. & libs. complaining, ridiculing RW 'News' Propaganda for decades- it's an industry- rather than doing something about it.

ZERO Calls for Impeachment.

Bob Cull
November 19, 2014

Republicans in the House have refused to act on the immigration reform bill passed by the Senate in June of 2013, leading President Obama to announce that if they do not act soon he will use his authority to issue an executive order granting legal status to millions with family members who already have legal status. The outcry from the “family values” party has been deafening. Republican congressmen have called him “lawless” and accused him of “shredding the Constitution,” calling it an “unprecedented” usurpation of congressional authority. There have even been calls for impeachment if he acts unilaterally. But is it unprecedented? The answer is a resounding “no.” It was done by two of the previous three presidents with no one calling for impeachment.

In 1986, Congress passed and Ronald Reagan signed into law sweeping immigration reform which was immediately recognized as being flawed with provisions that would divide families, deporting some while members of the same family would be allowed to stay.

In 1987 when Congress failed to amend the law, Reagan acted through the INS to allow the minor children and spouses of those who were granted amnesty by the new law to stay in the country — and there was not one peep about impeachment or lawless behavior by the president.

In 1989 the Senate passed a measure that would have allowed those covered by the executive action to stay with an 81-17 vote and the House failed to act on it.

In February of 1990, President George H.W. Bush acting through the INS, granted “family fairness” which allowed up to 1.5 million family members of immigrants who benefited from the 1986 law to stay without fear of deportation and work in the U.S. Once again there was no uproar and in October of that year, Congress passed another immigration reform law making their status permanent.

Nov 2014

For example, 1959-72 for Nixon. He was only vice president in 1959, and those dates also span the Kennedy and Johnson years.

There's also 1977-82 for Reagan, although the 1977 start date was either at the beginning of Carter's term, or at the very end of Ford's.

"Times used executive order to provide immigration relief."

I think someone got carried away with their calendar years
Eisenhower = 1959 - 1972? Was president from 1953 - 1961
Nixon = 1959-1972? Nixon wasn't president until 1969 - 1974
Ford = 1975-79, 1976 ??? WTH? Ford was president for about 2 years after Nixon's impeachment 1975 - 1976.
Reagan = 1977 - 82? He wasn't president until 1981.
HW Bush = His dates at least match the time he was president
GWB = His dates too.

our attention toward their suit against the ACA since their threats about immigration have turned to dust.
Benghazi is over. Bin Laden is dead. What else do they have? Instead of working on a piece of legislation to fix whatever they think is wrong with the ACA they will now spend all their evil intentions toward repealing it or making it totally unworkable.
