PSA: Stereotyping.

Do people realize how oppressive it is when someone gets stereotyped?

It is done for one reason and one reason only, to be oppressive & hurtful.

The only way to stop it is to not stay quiet and call them out on it. Whether it be a family member, friend or stranger.

It's also bullying. Stand up and say NO MORE! When more people do that, the more power taken away from the oppressor's.

Go in peace.

You see a guy walking down the street with a American flag shirt on and open carry with a gun on his hip-

98% of people here would instantly stereotype that person as a teabagging gunz nut-

The true irony is it often reveals the users own hypocrisy. I am not sure what birthed this PSA, but I just read a few posts in which Lindsay Graham is being ridiculed for possibly being gay. How is mocking his possible homosexuality any different than someone saying the same thing to someone who is openly gay. It doesn't matter if the person is on the right or the left of the political spectrum, mocking his/her sexual orientation (LGB) is homophobia!

*****L.Graham (S.C.-Rat) is anti-gay. I think based on his public appearance & behaviors, he is a closeted self hating gay man, so implying /saying he is gay /likes rough trade is an insult/joke, BECAUSE he is gay. Thus reinforcing anti-gay stereotyping as being gay is wrong.***** I have heard/seen similar comments in discussion in conversation and here on DU.
Please note, the above is not this is not my opinion....the best reasons to dislike him is because he is a hard right oppressive self serving person who will do or say anything to keep his position as better then anyone who is not a white male.
I am interested in hearing other DUers opinions about this.
