If you're a republican senator and you shit your pants and visit a whorehouse on a regular basis Gawd will forgive you and you will be "Reelected."
If you're a secret service agent and you go to a whorehouse you are un-forgiven and you're FIRED!
Where in the justice in this deal?
David Vitter set an example for ALL government employees.

I really don't have any answer here, but you are absolutely correct.

(8,556 posts)Not familiar with the rules for the SS, but I imagine agents can be terminated at any time. It's different with politicians. I guess it's possible to remove them from office, but that doesn't happen much. It's up to the voters. And for whatever reason, the voters decided to re-elect Vitter in 2010. Not how I would have voted, but that was their choice.
Some pretty shady folks have been elected and re-elected to Congress over the years. If the voters give them their support, there's usually not much anybody else can do. Jim Traficant was long known to be a corrupt bastard, but his district didn't really seem to mind.
Not the same thing with a SS agent. If their boss decides they aren't cutting it, they are gone.

(36,063 posts)I would like to think that the safety of the president and his retinue, as well as the safety of the security team itself wouldn't be vulnerable to the oldest security weakness in the book.
If a Congressman judges that his career can take being caught in diapers with a prostitute or sending pictures of his tumescent member to strangers, it's a personal choice that puts his career and perhaps private life at risk.
If a hostile force works an agent into the security perimeter of the presidential advance team it creates potential for a different matter entirely. And before anyone goes there...learning that the SS spends money and time doing security checks on prostitutes prior to deployments wouldn't actually make me happy.
IMO, the security team broadly displayed very poor judgement.

(37,726 posts)like the choices that a SS man makes?
Like Voting to invade Afghanistan?
Like Voting to invade Iraq?
Like Voting for the "patriot" act
Like Voting to de-regulate Wall Street and the banks?
Like Voting to privatize Social Security?
Like Voting to invade who knows where next?
I think the moral example that people like US Senators, Vitter and Craig set for the rest of the federal government, are important. I think the quality of people at the top, who decide, for us ALL, matters. The US Senate needed to run Vitter and Craig out of town. No wonder the Senate and House have about a 10% approval rating. I think that stupid 10% is probably the ladies at the cat houses and bondage bars.

And now I recognize my mistake. I do apologize.
I saw the OP as an opening for a discussion/comments about the incident that happened with the security team in Columbia.
I completely missed that it was merely a thread to bash one or more US senators.
Again, I apologize. My misunderstanding, I'm sure.

(37,726 posts)How Gawd can forgive a republican for his dalliances, ASAP, but how a democrat or anyone connected with a democrat is just shit out of luck.(no pun intended)
It's a shame that Gawd can't ever be called into a Senate hearing room, sworn in and asked point blank, about such a one sided forgiveness policy.
