Garth Brooks Cancels Fallon, 'Today Show In Wake of Ferguson Fury (Exclusive)
.... In addition to a visit with Fallon, he's called off chats with the Today show and Live! with Kelly and Michael, individuals close to the productions told TheWrap. Both appearances were slated to tape Tuesday.
We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation, the singer posted to his Facebook page.
To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me, he wrote, encouraging his followers to love one another.
I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow, Brooks concluded.
The successful country star is currently making the rounds with his ninth studio album Man Against Machine, which marks his first new material in 13 years. ....

Having a bidding war over who would profit over the dead body of Michael Brown by getting the first interview with his murderer is beyond grotesque.

(24,761 posts)He has his priorities straight. I'd like to see more country stars take a stand against racism and bigotry. I'm sorry to say this, but the country music genre has a conservative reputation and too many of them espouse the racist views that Garth Brooks stands against.

To me country music has always had two sides. One the one hand there's the glitzy over-produced Conway Twitty/Billy Ray Cyrus stuff; on the other there's the gritty Hank Williams/Johnny Cash stuff. Garth is definitely in the latter school.

(11,833 posts)I love quality songwriting and sincerity in music, no matter what genre. Love Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Ray Charles doing country. Look forward to hearing some of this good man Garth Brooks.

(5,562 posts)it was excellent, just him and his guitar where he talked and sang, he went over his career and all the musical influences throughout his life. There was a lot of rock and pop as well as country. I think some blues too if I remember correctly. I think that's the reason for his broad appeal.

Look for stuff called "roots" or "alt.country". There's some truly amazing stuff out there

(65,010 posts)You like what you like, and that's cool. I find it very rare to find country music with rhythm as opposed to merely a beat. Hence, nobody is selling me on how good something is when i've heard what i've heard for 50 years. Even the Nashville pop-country, which has huge elements of rock music, is still soulless.

(9,895 posts)I hate to think how many "fans" he lost as a result of simply being a decent human being.
The right-wing lunatic set is 100% certain that not only was Wilson right in killing Brown, but he should have reloaded and shot down Johnson as well. They are essentially OK with summary death sentences for petty theft or insolence to authority. I listened to some of their call-ins (about 15 minutes was all I could take) on that bitch Dana Loesch's local Fox radio show yesterday. If you did not know any better, you would have easily thought that Brown and Johnson were runaway slaves and this was 1814 instead of 2014.
Kudos to Mr. Brooks. I have become a fan of his personally, even if I do not care much for his style of music - mainly because it carries strong mental connotations of his erstwhile fan base and THAT is something I do not like my music to do, namely remind me of people I would not choose to associate with under any circumstances.
I'm also sure that some capitalist somewhere is aghast by his decision, which is just another reason to praise it!

(3,194 posts)I am sure they will reschedule the appearances. No worries.
He doesn't need to expose himself when there are bigger issues on people's minds. Unlike the POS prosecutor and the POS Pig from Ferguson, who can't wait to cash in with "exclusive" interviews.
I will wait for Garth's interviews, but will quickly change any channel that has wilson on.
