Didn't realize how racist reddit was until today.

So many posts calling Michael Brown a thug. They like to pride themselves as being open minded pushers of freedom and civil justice, consistently praising the likes of Snowden and Greenwald and yet, when it comes to racial issues, they're as nasty and bigoted as most of the right-wing echo chamber.

Absolutely infuriating and disgusting.

Noticed the same thing. It has not been one of reddit's better days. So many vile comments all over the place I just had to stop. I'd rather play Clash of Clans anyway.

Of course, once the old Dixiecrats, etc. do die off, the racist wing of the Right really won't have the power it used to have.....but it may indeed still be around longer than many of us would hope.....

I think reddit has a lot more nastiness running around below the surface than many folks seem to think.

Redditors are mainly privilaged, coddled, middle class white men. Also, Stormfront uses Reddit as a recruitment ground.

The MRAs are perhaps one of the most notorious examples of that; David Futrelle has made a LOT of screenshots available throughout the years on his site.

Same deal. Reddit is nothing if not consistent when it comes to race relations. The most highly rated comments are inevitably long winded tirades about the short comings of the black races, with bonus points for posts that start as "I'm a black person, but ... ". Reddit has been pretty terrible since 2012 I'd say. Some of it is organic, with the broader public being exposed to Reddit, it's no surprise that it's become a worse website. But it's also intentional, as right wing subs are elevated to the front page and left wing subs removed.

I also started doing the app like five or six months ago and that opens up every popular post that I regularly don't see (the front page). It sucks. I normally stay in the /r/cfb or /r/cringepics or other places I won't mention.

I've never seen the level of trolling that I've seen today on the Internet. Then again I saw that coming more than I saw no indictment coming.

The actions taken today online are the white version of the riots and looting in the sense that it's their extreme reaction to the verdict. It's not every white person, just as it's not every protestor. I'm white myself. They are complete and utter losers who do this stuff every day.

Except it wasn't a realization on my part, more of a confirmation.

It is interesting when certain topics come up & the certain posters that take a side. Though it will be hard to find someone that is still a Zimmerman defender due to things like this -- http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/george-zimmerman-threatens-kill-driver-road-rage-incident-police-article-1.1937738

It is interesting the Zimmerman defenders that I remember and which side they picked.
