Angry chants of Hands up, dont shoot permeated the air at Austin police headquarters as hundreds of protesters gathered Tuesday evening in response to a grand jurys decision Monday not to indict the white police officer responsible for the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., earlier this year.
Unlike the reaction in Ferguson where protests turned violent, cars and buildings have been set on fire, and hundreds of National Guard troops were deployed Austin police said the demonstration was always peaceful.

(11,833 posts)I've enjoyed seeing all the photos of all the thoughtful people around the country and world who support the people of Ferguson. Black lives matter.
We have come a long way. Almost all these protests have been peaceful. That's a long long way from the protests in the 1960's and from the L.A. protests after the Rodney King police acquittal.
The need for positive change is no less great. It is urgent. I am very happy though that no one has been killed from these protests in the last day.
Hope you enjoy a wonderful evening and a great day tomorrow!

We must reduce inequality. At every level. Social, economic, political, criminal, procedural.
The journey never ends. But you do get to meet really cool people along the way. Both physically and online!
