Reactions to the Ferguson Protests in Minneapolis

As in many major cities, protests took shape after the failure of the Grand Jury to indict the cop who shot a young black man in Ferguson. Here in Minneapolis, a moving protest blocked a couple of major streets in the city. In both places, cars attempted to drive through the protestors. Nobody was badly injured, but the cars made the attempt. Neither of the drivers was taken into custody. Both were released after questioning by the police. One young woman had her leg partly run over in one of the accidents, but didn't incur a serious injury, despite that.

What I have to wonder is why anyone would attempt to use a vehicle to continue on a road that is being blocked by a crowd of protestors. What possible good is served by something like that? There were no interviews in the media of the drivers, but I wish there had been. What were they thinking when they made the decision to continue on their way? Were those two drivers angry at the protestors? Just frustrated in not being able to continue driving on that particular street? Did they think the crowd would magically part to let them pass? What could they have been thinking?

If I encountered such a situation, my decision would be simple. I'd stop well before reaching the crowd and seek a different street to drive on. Any crowd, demonstrators or not. I can't imagine being so stupid as to continue on my way down that blocked street. And yet, two people, for unknown reasons, decided that their need to drive down that particular street was more important than the protestors' right to block their way. I can only ask, WTF were they thinking? Video:
