US sending tanks to eastern Europe to reassure allies

The United States Army intends to deploy nearly 150 tanks and armored vehicles to Eastern Europe by the end of next year, according to a top American General, in a move designed to reassure its allies in the region.

After Russia annexed the Crimea and moved troops into Eastern Ukraine earlier this year, the United States launched an ongoing training mission to Poland and the Baltic countries, Operation Atlantic Resolve. As Military Times notes, the mission is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Army Lt. Gen. Frederick “Ben” Hodges noted that nearly 50 armored vehicles are already in place, while nearly 100 M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles will be moved to Europe.

And Russia's going ballistic. (Not literally, one hopes.)

With such a firm belief in how effect leading to cause, one wonders how they managed to have such a good theoretical math and physics program for all those years (things that weren't much subject to being stigmatized as bourgeois, as was computer science and genetics and linguistics ...).

Oh. Wait. It was the political system that believed in effect and cause, and many of the leaders continue that system. The physicists and mathematicians subscribed to the bourgeois "cause and effect" (but probably kept quiet about it).

they could go wrest some of the left over military equipment in Iraq from ISIS?

It might save a few bucks.
