Is Mitt Romney the most out-of-touch politician ever?

I recall a story of George Bush senior looking at a super-market scanner like it was something from Mars. And I’ve seen a photo of Nixon walking on a beach in wingtips.

But in relating to things like, you know, people, Romney is in a class by himself.

At a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, he was offered a home-baked cookie. Rather than just taking it, he suggested it came from 7-Eleven. He was there to talk about economics, but had managed to turn the conversation to cookies and insult the woman who’d baked them. You almost have to feel sorry for his campaign aids.

It seems that Romney can’t go a few days without putting his foot in his mouth (instead of a cookie). As the author of the link below said, “Just eat the fucking cookie.

Anyone recall other stories of out-of-touch candidates?

But the crowd initially booed Mr. Romney, who occasionally struck a discordant note, as when he approached a group of fans wearing plastic ponchos. “I like those fancy raincoats you bought,” he said. “Really sprung for the big bucks.”

The woman didn't bake the cookies, they came from the bakery around the corner, a Pittsburg institution, but a commercial bakery, nonetheless.

However, Mittens managed to insult her, the bakery and, by extension, the people of Pittsburg, in one fell swoop.

Telling Michigan auto workers that your wife owns "a couple of Cadillacs" and auto racing fans that "some of my best friends are NASCAR team owners" while building a car elevator for your latest mansion acquisition in San Diego.

Oh and let's not forget when he was in Michigan when he said that he could name all makes and models from his father's factory but couldn't name a single one in production today. Or when he told a "funny story" about his father closing a plant and firing all the workers.

You truly cannot get a more clueless candidate than Romney - he is the least interesting man in the world.
