babies are cute.

As I approach old age, I dislike it more and more.

4. I have a heart full of love for senior, senior citizens. I think it's because of my grandmother.

She lived till 91, and she was just a doll. Petite, adorable, heart of gold.

When my life gets settled, I should look into working at a nursing home - or something.

When I called them cute - I meant it... to me they were.

6. You may have love in your heart, but calling elderly people cute, calling them honey, etc......

is condescending and shows lack of respect. This from an elderly person. My own mother frequently had to be hospitalized and be treated this way by nurses; it made me burn inside. Think about it. The elderly person may be weak physically, but endowed with courage and strength from his or her long life full of challenges. Honor their spirit and mind by approaching them with respect and a smiling face. Being ill and weak is dismaying enough without the extra "honey" treatment. We are not children.

7. look, I'm sure you mean well but it is disrespectful

despite that not being your intent.

And to characterize being hunched over as cute, is just kind of sickening. I hope you'll take the comments in this thread to heart.

The elderly aren't cartoons or little gnome like creatures.

5. Just wait till you're old and somebody refers to you as "cute".

It's like we reach the age of 65 and suddenly we're not real any more. We're "cute", almost, but not quite, like real people; in the same category as those "cute" kids down the street wearing their dad's shoes and playing at being grownups.

I for one and getting sick of this demeaning, condescending attitude toward society's most experienced people. "Cute little old couple" is every bit as bad as the N** word! At least it feels that way when you're on the receiving end of it.

10. Well, I just turned 74 and if someone wants to call me cute, guess I won't take issue.

Better than being told I'm a wrinkled old hag (which I'm not, I hasten to say). I don't see it as condescending, but then I do look a lot younger--it's in the genes, I guess. The last thing I'd do is equate being called "cute" with the N** word. Is it okay, I wonder, if when I come up with a witty remark (I write a lot of humor), for someone to tell me "that was cute!"? Wouldn't bother me, but then I thrive on giving others a hearty chuckle now and again!

Just for the record--I'm a flaming progressive, dedicated to saving our country if not the world, active in local community/political happenings, and rarely play at being grownup, 'cause--I'm already there, have been for quite awhile now. Oh, and I absolutely love my DU. Not sure what I'd do without it!

Didn't mean to go off on a rant. Guess I'll go hit the gym now! Oh, and look for the original post on this topic to see what all the kerfuffle is about.

Blessings.

Not understanding the "outrage" around this. Sometimes we come across like caricatures of ourselves.

15. IMHO The OP should never have caved...

... just because one whiner was sobbing that he's being mistreated. Is this why Democrats always seem to cave to the whiners on the right?

I think the correct response to my "complaint" should have been "STFU and get over it!"

But it was an interesting experiment nonetheless.
