There is also a war on Thanksgiving, it's a corporate war.
So the next time some talking head babbles on about the war, that should be the response.

Same with Cinco de Mayo. I partake some years and don't others, but I am not Mexican-American. celebrate or not, it is a holiday that some enjoy and others don't. There is Zero reason to stop others from enjoying it even in the public schools. It is crazy. Yep those shamrocks are on bulletin boards at school, but no Christmas decorations at Christmas....not cool.

(36,286 posts)of most of its meaning -witness the "Lucky Irish Four Leaf Clovers" substituted more and more for shamrocks! December 25 is actually several overlaying holidays - Solstice, Commemoration of the Birth of Jesus, Yuletide, Massive Consumer Blow-out Day, etc. Personally, I don't like to see manger scenes trivialized by being placed next to a reindeer and a snowman. Let the snowmen and reindeer stay in public venues, put the mangers in churches and homes.

(36,286 posts)the religion business. (I happen to think that turning religious beliefs into a cultural institution demeans those beliefs, but that's me. )In all too many small towns across America, banning the manger scene from the court house lawn became the symbol of change and also an indication of a multicultural society. Claiming there is a War on Christmas is a dog whistle for those who want to go back to a 1950s era that never was.
