Catholic nuns group 'stunned' by Vatican scolding for 'radical feminist' ideas

A prominent U.S. Catholic nuns group said it was "stunned" that the Vatican reprimanded it for spending too much time on poverty and social justice concerns and not enough on abortion and gay marriage.

In a stinging report on Wednesday, the Vatican said the Leadership Conference of Women Religious had been "silent on the right to life" and had failed to make the "Biblical view of family life and human sexuality" a central plank in its agenda. It accused the group of promoting "certain radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith."

It also reprimanded American nuns for expressing positions on political issues that differed, at times, from views held by American bishops. Public disagreement with the bishops -- "who are the church's authentic teachers of faith and morals" -- is unacceptable, the report said.

I really want to go back to church but I just can't be a part of that kind of crazy.

Probably because issues such as abortion repeal attempts (if any) are put up to the entire country as referenda, the voters vote, and the voters are not only educated in schools, but ALSO self-educated (with even folks with menial jobs reading newspapers, books, and having healthy discussions on everything), so they are very aware voters. And by the way, a repeal of abortion rights was attempted in Italy, and the voters voted against it because the country loves its rights.

HERE? Here we have to worry about total nutjob right wing asshole religious voters with little real education, who have a religion for two purposes: 1) To proselytize others; and, 2) To legislate everyone else into believing the same bullshit they believe.

I was very lucky growing up. My parents wanted me to read a lot, read whatever I wanted, to be very respectful but not awed by authority, and to have curiosity about everything, taking nothing for granted. No brainwashing. The complete opposite of the way right wing fools are raised.

Dear Vatican:

So now that those problems are eliminated, just what kind of work do the nuns and the church need to do on the issues of abortion and gay rights?

Are pregnant women not liable to be in poverty or need of justice? Oh, I forgot, none of them are in poverty nor do they or their children, born or unborn, need help. It'll take a while for me to wrap my head around that one, sorry. Just a dumb woman here.

Are gays in need of something? What do they want, the nuns to try to seduce gay men and bring them back into the faith? That kind of thing hasn't worked before. Did I miss something of importance? The 'Exodus' movement was a scam, or so I heard.

Please explain to the un-churched heathens out here exactly what this new work is going to be. We know you and the brothers in robes there do all the talking. And that you have scriptures that say that's right.

I wish you'd just leave the women's work to the women and let them do it. You know their work is never done, so they don't have time to talk.

((Nothing in this post was meant to offend Catholics, nuns, monks, gays or women. Or the born or unborn. I can't promise that I would be honest if I said I didn't mean to offend the Vatican. After all, I think they are no living in the same world as the rest of us if they truly believe that poverty and social justice or no longer a problem. I will delete this comment if requested.))

The nuns should not worry about this reprimand. They should ignore the Taliban in the Vatican and continue with their good work. By the end of this year, the Christ will have returned openly to everyday life in the world. He will straighten out these bishops who think they are the boss and have the authority to speak for God.
