RNC Seeks to Turn Facebook Into a Political Tool

The RNC "is preparing to launch a new Facebook tool that lets users share news, talking points and the latest updates about the presidential campaign with their friends," CNN reports.

"Republicans using the application will be able do the work usually reserved for campaign offices simply by logging into Facebook from their personal computers... They can fill out and submit absentee ballot applications, see early voting deadlines, donate to the party or inform their friends about upcoming campaign event... all while never leaving Facebook. And simply by clicking a button, a user's phone will ring and automatically re-connect them, via RNC headquarters, to targeted voters in key states."

2. A two-edged strategy

This could definitely work in favor of a political party that simply doesn't get the sort of volunteer staffing that the other party gets. It's a fast, efficient way of reaching a lot of people, particularly folks wired into the internet through a user-friendly platform.

It can also work against a political party in that it isn't reaching out and providing that personal touch to people. It's also the sort of thing that seems like it could be rather easily monkey-wrenched by some internet-savvy operatives. And while I have no hard data on that particular point, I would guess that Democrats have more personnel at their disposal to screw this up for the Republicans. It may also be that Democrats will see what the Republicans are doing, and figure out a way to do it better and more effectively.

Game on, boys and girls.

and Clinton used MTV to rock the vote...
I see no issue here. I get political adds pop up all the time for people I have no desire to vote for.
