After hearing about the 12 year old getting shot and killed in Ohio because he had a toy gun while white gun enthusiasts can walk around carrying their long guns, glocks and other pistols and police turn the other way. I know why right to carry laws are only for white people. If you're black, brown or yellow you better not carry or open carry in public because you will be shot by the police.

(15,438 posts)The writing on the wall is telling us that as a PoC you better not "open carry" or you'll be crushed as the third-rate citizen cops see us as. I guess they took that "minority" label to mean it in the most demeaning way, because that was what I thought it was when I first heard it when I returned to the U.S. after a few years abroad, and discovered I was a minority (Asian).

(10,136 posts)The open carry folks do not reach for their guns when in the presence of cops. Well, the white, black, brown, and yellow OC folks in the Seattle area, any way.

(24,853 posts)See, the history as I read it shows serious gun control legislation in 1934 and 1938, whereas the Black Panthers came into being around 1966.
1934
National Firearms Act
Brought about by the lawlessness and rise of gangster culture during prohibition, President Franklin D. Roosevelt hoped this act would eliminate automatic-fire weapons like machine guns from America's streets. Other firearms such as short-barreled shotguns and rifles, parts of guns like silencers, as well as other "gadget-type" firearms hidden in canes and such were also targeted. All gun sales and gun manufacturers were slapped with a $200 tax (no small amount for Americans mired in the Great Depression; that would be like a tax of $2,525 today) on each firearm, and all buyers were required to fill out paperwork subject to Treasury Dept. approval.
1938
Federal Firearms Act
Congress aimed this law at those involved in selling and shipping firearms through interstate or foreign commerce channels. Anyone involved in the selling of firearms was required to obtain a Federal Firearms License from the Secretary of Commerce ($1 annual fee). They were also required to record the names and addresses of everyone they sold guns to and were prohibited from selling to those people who were convicted of certain crimes or lacked a permit.
