This week, Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston had his student conduct hearing over accusations he raped a female student. Controversially, local prosecutors declined to charge Winston with a crime at this time of the year in 2013 due to lack of evidence.
Of course, Winston gave a statement saying that his actions were consensual (because y'know, easy girls always lie about being raped). But this is the most ridiculous, woe-is-me, "I'm really the victim" part:
I guess playing football must have f**ked this guy's brain over so much that he lacks moral perspective. "The only thing as vicious as rape is falsely accusing someone of rape"? Is this man stupid, or am I ignorant of something?
Anyway, I hope Georgia Tech gives this guy a concussion this Saturday. Of all the QB's to have won Heisman or national championship he has to be the biggest scumbag of 'em all.

JURY RESULTS
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Dec 5, 2014, 03:36 PM, and the Jury voted 6-1 to HIDE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: A bit over the top even though I agree with the sentiment.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Obvious personal insult is obvious
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Personal attack.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Leave. He was talking to the person quoted by the article. I'm sensitive here because I received a hide doing the exact same thing. I called the subject of an article a "fascist" and got a hide. We have to be careful in our phrasing AND our alerting/hiding. Hassin Bin Sober.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What? Unless this is sarcastic, it is uncalled for.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(10,201 posts)You cannot expect folks on a discussion board to read whats written. That's far too much to ask. I applaud the minority to actually read it.
I was in a thread earlier where over a quarter of the folks posting read absolutely nothing beyond the subject line. It was quite embarrassing for them. The OP and the responses were in no way related. So much egg on face.

Being a rapist apparently fails to qualify. Yet I have seen George W Bush referred to on DU, many times, in exactly the same words and nobody said jack shit. And as bad as he was I don't think he raped anybody and then whined about being the victim.

Apropos of nothing there was a recent bunch of threads about why DU views are down down down.

(63,221 posts)that is if they get any time at all. I doubt very much very, very few of those who are accused of rape (falsely) ever go to trial, let alone get any prison time.

(4,035 posts)is just as bad as being raped. As is getting to continue with a world famous career, earning millions of dollars, even when 20 of your victims accuse you of rape a la Bill Cosby.
Or heck, getting a second shot at fame through a film career when you were not only accused of rape, but found guilty and served time for rape, a la Mike Tyson.
I hope Winston's career in football crashes and burns, and may he never achieve what he wants.

(9,527 posts)Winston is still a bloody fucking moron for reading that and not thinking to himself "this sounds stupid". Of course he's the same idiot who stole crab legs, jumped up on a table to yell something stupid (which he lied about when he was disciplined over it) and when he was benched for a game, came out onto the field wearing his uniform and pads before the coach sent him to take the pads off. So he's clearly a complete dumbass who desperately needs to grow the fuck up.

(11,138 posts)1) No, it really isn't. Being accused of rape falsely does suck, but I would think actually BEING raped is quite a bit worse.
2) I doubt you would know in either case Jameis, because in my opinion you are guilty as sin. You are the poster child for pampered athletes who never grow up. I will smile broadly the day you go to prison, and yes, I am quite certain that you WILL end up there. You're too stupid to stop trying to get away with things you shouldn't.

(8,760 posts)....because it reinforces the idea that false accusations occur, which negatively affects others who are actually raped. It is hard enough to find the courage to report rape in any circumstance. It is a serious crime against all rape victims to falsely accuse.
False accusations get much more coverage in the news. Limbaugh types call women sluts for merely using contraceptives. They love spreading this kind of story.
merrily
(45,251 posts)a false accusation being worse than rape in any way at all if you had been raped.
Anyway, Jameis was not referrring to a false accusation being as vicious as rape for women in general or society in general. He was saying that being falsely accused is as vicious to the falsely accused male as rape is to a female rape victim. And that, while terrible, is not even close to be raped.

Makes it easier when there's a false accusation. because chances are, nobody gives a shit, they're going to tear apart the "victim" ( all victims- real or imaginary - are whores who were asking for it ), everybody's gonna say what a great guy he is and nothing will happen.
Not good for actual rape victims, but it's rare a man goes to prison for rape, even if he is a serial rapist.
53% of rape cases in the military involve enlisted men as victims. How often are these false allegations?

(99 posts)There will be a civil case and the nature of Winstons relationship with his accuser will be brought to light and knowing what little I know about that relationship I have a very hard time believing that a court will find for the plaintiff.
