Candy Crowley, the veteran CNN political correspondent and host of CNN's State of the Union, will leave after 27 years with the network, CNN president Jeff Zucker announced in a memo to staff on Friday.
"t is with mixed emotions, that I wanted to let you know that Candy has let us know that she has made the decision to move on, so she can embark on the next chapter of her already prolific career," Zucker wrote. "As difficult as it is for us to imagine CNN without Candy, we know that she comes to this decision thoughtfully, and she has our full support."
Zucker did not mention who would replace Crowley on State of the Union, the network's Sunday public affairs program. A network spokesperson has yet to respond to a request for comment regarding a successor.

(59,503 posts)but there also was her hero worship, groupie like coverage of George Bush from 2000 thru at least 2004. (Not to mention her strange negative coverage of the Kerry campaign - where it was mostly her commenting on where he was and then a very brief snippet of him attacking Bush. Heaven forbid anyone see the large crowds or the positive program that Kerry had.
Even after he lost, she felt it necessary to say that he lost because he was too much an elitist - asking for green tea in Iowa. In fact, the restaurant quickly corrected her saying she misinterpreted the waitress who was simply telling Kerry the brand they had of green tea was Lipton, which he said was fine. So, the elitist was Crowley who thought that Iowa was too backward to have (the very common) green tea! What this really shows was something very different than her proving Kerry an elitist -- it showed that she looked for things to prove a meme that she believed.

(29,503 posts)I still can't really forgive her for her shilling during the worst years - but my assessment is tempered by the fact that she later really tried to make amends. I do wish her well in her future endeavors.

(102,269 posts)I was about to make a snarky comment about how good it will be that she is now free to stalk GwB* full time.
But, I'll counter that with good on her for turning the corner journalistically.

(118,653 posts)during the second debate with Obama, when he was trying to imply Obama didnt say Benghazi an act of terror in the beginning. She took alot of right wing heat (or should I say right wing gas) for that.

Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)After Kerry ordered green tea for lunch at a restaurant in a small town in Iowa during a campaign stop when he was running for President.
Candy made a big stink about how hard it would be for the "common", average, hard-working Iowan to understand such elegant, refined, and expensive tastes of a wealthy elitist politician from the East, who passed the time of day by sipping on green tea.
She acted as if Boston or Washington D.C. were the only 2 places in the world that one could ever find green tea to drink without having it imported.
She used the inflection of her voice when she gave her report, hanging on to words that she wanted to emphasize, and pausing for effect at all of the right spots during her report, in order to give it time to let it all sink in.
There was no mistaking her complete disdain for John Kerry.
It was a hit piece on Kerry, and there was no doubt about that.
The Kerry campaign complained about the bias of her report, saying that they found green tea for sale on shelves at 3 grocery stores within 2 miles of that restaurant.
They said that green tea was much more common as a drink than Candy had made it sound.
They pointed out the fact that Kerry didn't even live in Iowa, yet that restaurant had been offering green tea as a refreshment to drink in that small town in Iowa for years before he even stopped in to eat at that restaurant.
They pointed to that fact as proof that green tea was much more common, and much more popular than she made it sound like it was -- and hence, much less the exclusive drink of aristocratic wealthy elitists -- than Candy had tried to portray Kerry as.
I won't miss her.

(54,378 posts)And she ALWAYS favored Republican talking points in her reporting. I think the only reason she never ended up on Fox is because she didn't fit the Megyn Kelly physical requirements.
I don't get US TV here except CNN International, which I almost never watch. Maybe Crowley did try to redeem herself later on, but she was out there so incredibly blatantly pushing W as if she had been a paid campaign worker, I have no sympathy.
I hear Sandra Day O'Connor, too, was having moral pangs about her decision to put W in the White House, and thus give us Iraq, Roberts and Alito (i.e. Citizens United), and the economic collapse of 2008. Fuck her. The damage she did in her decision caused hundreds of thousands of violent deaths, disrupted millions of others and wrecked the economy as well as the credibility of the Supreme Court.
