http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lindsay-ferrier/this-is-what-happens-when-you-order-ridiculously-cheap-clothing-from-singapore_b_6249572.html.this was my kind of coat! But NastyDress? What the heck was NastyDress?
Intrigued, I clicked on the link Yep. It was pretty nasty, all right. Most of the dresses would get a girl arrested for indecent exposure if she were to wear one of them in public.
But when I looked at the coats and sweaters, I found plenty of options I loved. And the prices were AH-MAZ-ING.
Tops were $10 $15! Sweaters were $15-$20! And coats were all under $40!

(8,692 posts)Her mother was Chinese, her father was British and although she was Asian in appearance she very much had the body of a western woman. She said she just couldn't find much of anything that fit her and a mother-daughter shopping trip to Australia was a ritual every summer.

(67,395 posts)of course I did not order them online from a company I couldn't track down, for prices that were too good to true, shown worn by models who were obviously scrawny/petite/waif sized lol

(4,741 posts)I got an incredibly (well, relatively so) inexpensive suit from a place that let me plug in all my measurements, brewed up a pattern, and sent it off to Shanghai seamsmen...a few weeks and less than $500 later I had an outfit that fit me shockingly well. Slave labor or not, you get exactly what you send the Eastern tailors, for better or worse.

(20,582 posts)I'm not big by any means, 5'6 and about 115 lbs., so I ordered a size large, thinking the coats would be perfect - they were gorgeous! I ended up giving them both to my little neighbour down the street as I could wear them, as long as I didn't try to lift my arms. I thought paying them directly would help them out more than buying them over here, but who knows if doing that has any effect on how the owners pay/benefit their workers anyway. I just wish there were some way to enforce a world-wide salary standard and humane laws protecting workers would be mandatory for any factory anywhere.

(25,586 posts)My fiancee buys cosplay stuff from Asia all the time; you have to go big on the sizing.
There's nothing wrong with that coat beyond the size problem. Properly sized it would lay right down the front and wouldn't bunch up across the top of the bosom.

(36,063 posts)Sizing is different around the world, even if the sizing is communicated in what seems to be familiar coding
Consumers everywhere seem to like size markers that make them feel something other than large and extra large and multiple extra larger

(146,286 posts)brick and mortar stores. If it doesn't fit, you try a different size. You don't just buy it. Women's clothing sizes are all over the map, and vary widely between manufacturers. Clothing makers in Asia who are targeting the Asian market size their clothing for that market. When you order online from a company in another country, you have no idea at all how their sizing compares to US sizing, and you can't try the thing on.
So, she saved a bunch of money, but really didn't since the coat is useless to her. She'd be better off shopping in consignment shops or deep discount clothing shops if she wants low prices on cheap cloting. There she can try the stuff on to see if it suits her.
I think the writer is blaming the wrong people in her article.

(72,790 posts)I am a 5-foot-2, 140-145 pound male. Clothes never fit.
I prefer to shop at brick and mortar stores so I can try the items on.
I don't want to go through the return process that I likely would have to with the on-line stores.
