Lose the internet by July?

FBI: Hundreds Of Thousands May Lose Internet In July

WASHINGTON (AP) — For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this summer.

Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is to be shut down.

So if I haven't been on one of these scam sites, I'm okay? I'm fairly good at avoiding stuff I feel is phony. Any IT experts out there?

but I don't use Internet Exploder and I don't click on adverts or go to really dodgy websites these days, so my risk was low.

Also thanks for your sig line. Nothing ruins a discussion board faster than language police.

9. Thanks for that, but for those of us who didn't catch the earlier thread....

I've been having horrible issues with my Internet access for a couple of weeks now, and it's all down to a single laptop running Windoze 7, Internet Exploder and Outlook.

Right now, we're watching Netflix, but the plugged-in PC can't/won't access any internet site.

Sometimes a repost isn't a bad thing.

10. It would be good if we could somehow merge these threads......

Or at least cross reference them.
Although the sight mentioned appears honest, the 'go to this web sight, click here, and fix all you're problems' is a tired and true malware stunt.
This is going to be an ongoing 'thing to be concerned about' for the next month or so.
Could we get DU admin to pin a thread somewhere?

As to you're Plugged in PC. I'm not all that versed with Win 7 however, if Win 7 has something like....

ipconfig /all

My post at DU....

May be helpfully.

Their are many, many many, reasons why a PC may not be able to access the Internet.
This eliminates at least one of them.

This is why I would like to see this thread, and other similar threads pinned some where.
Others can share knowledge and experience.
What is also important is that we can expose fake sights, you know the type....
"for only $39.99 we can fix this "register" (haha) problem for you.

Anyone have any ideas how we might do that....
