Self defense of?

Last edited Fri Dec 12, 2014, 11:43 PM - Edit history (1)

White privilege. This cartoon from 1876 got me thinking that maybe the hate directed towards president Obama is more about him being biracial than anything. With the impending shift in the majority, I think racists fear the people who are the children of race betrayers. Obama is an incredibly powerful reminder of the fact that A LOT of coffee has been added to the cream. Immigration is a reminder of the range of coffee available.

I don't like the region bashing element, but the context is important. It references the south because it was produced in 1876 right before the presidential election when the Civil War were still so fresh.

1. While cartoons like that may be unacceptable today, not sure about the sentiments.

I think we get spoiled here sometimes and forget just how callous and racist some folks are.

Good post.

It is disturbing, but sometimes we need to expose ourselves to them in order to try to understand. Those of us who are white really do need to feel some sense of horror about what has been happening.
