Remember that one? It is afterall Christmas. How about "blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Sons of God." I am very surprised that no one seems to recall that Christmas, Hannakah, and other Winter solstice celebrations are the traditional times to practice peace and good will towards every one. I'll bet that Pope Francis hasn't forgotten. I'll even bet that POTUS and SoS Kerry haven't forgotten either. Is it not entirely appropriate that our American leaders should reach out a hand of friendship towards Cuba (and every other country for that matter) in a gesture of good will? Isn't that what's supposed to be at the heart of Christianity?
Where is the fundamentalist Christian leadership on teaching the practice of peace and good will towards everyone? Maybe they're not really Christians. Or maybe their understanding of Jesus' teachings is all twisted and warped?
So if your friends and family start an anti-Obama rant over Cuba, remember first and foremost not to get vexed and upset. Have compassion for them because they are ignorant. And then gently remind them that this is Christmas, when we hold the thought in our mind of peace on earth, and the feeling in our heart of good will towards everyone. And further pray to open our minds and hearts even more with the hope that this new approach towards Cuba will have positive results. We certainly don't secretly wish for it to have terribly negative results, do we?

(10,252 posts)My questions were more rhetorical about them. I have great sorrow in my heart for them, because they are so blindingly and stubbornly ignorant. It's difficult not to look at them condescendingly. Whenever I run into one irl, I try to be present, stay calm, and not go crazy. I like to challenge them by asking if they think that God hates all the same people that they hate. They don't see the humor and irony in my question, but rather get super defensive. Oh well ...
