I have to chalk this kind of crap up to self loathing. They are so frustrated with their efforts to repress their own homosexuality that they lash out to try to convince others that they are straight. Must be hell.

1. They feel that Homosexuality is a serious sin, and that by acknowledging it / treating it as a normal part of society, that children will want to become homosexuality (they also believe homosexuality to be a choice).

2. They feel that as a society becomes more wicked, by say indulging in Homosexual acts, God gets more and more angry at that society, removing protections and even cursing it. This is why they feel they have a right to care about other people's private acts.

3. They find homosexuality uncomfortable - particularly male homosexuality - this is a problem with American society as a whole.

4. They are unable to empathize with homosexuals - seeing them as something completely separate from themselves. This is why they latch into homosexual, while not having nearly as much issues with fornication or adultry. They can imagine themselves committing adultery or fornication, but can't imagine themselves engaging in homosexual sex. So it's much easier to demonize homosexuals.

There are probably others I'm not thinking of.

Matt 5:28-29

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

That's right you've gotta pluck out your eyes for looking at women. Its in the bable

Mark 10:11-12

And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

That's right. Got divorced? well you're going to hell!

Exodus 22:16-17

And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

Although its okay to Fornicate with the maid ...as long as you Marry her! (Seems a bit specific but ...okay)

1 Chronicles 2:8-11

And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

And don't even THINK about letting your semen drop on the floor, not only is it a sin but God will KILL you but... having sex with the maid is okay as long as you merry her.

Point being, I love how they cherry pick "Sins".

the 'But' that begins your extract intelligible.

(27): You have heard it said, "Do not commit adultery."
(28): But . . .

The Nazarene here is contrasting the compliance with the letter of Old Testament law ("Thou shalt not commit adultery&quot with the spirit of the 'authentic' law, which is that 'fidelity' is an internal, i.e., emotional, matter, and not simply a matter of outward actions.

In like manner, your citation of Mark 10: 11-12 takes the Nazarene's words out of their larger context and implies that they are some free-standing admonition, when the clear context of those remarks is a contrast between divorce in Mosaic law ("when your hearts were hard" in v. 5) and now (when two souls merge into one through the sacrament of marriage).

IOW, in each of the two New Testament passages you have cited, the fuller context for the passages is the contrast between the covenant of 'law' (Old Testament) and the covenant of 'love' (or 'emotional honesty').

Come on, now, give the Nazarene a break! Don't tie (H)im down with Old Testament and Pauline doctrines! The Nazarene was a genuine revolutionary. Why else would they put him to death?
