Sony Exec Fires Back at President Obama

<Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton, denying that the studio had "caved" by scrapping next week's opening of "The Interview," fired back Friday after President Obama said the studio had "made a mistake."

Lynton said he would be "fibbing" to say he "wasn't disappointed" in Obama's remarks.

"I don't know exactly whether he understands the sequence of events that led up to the movie not being shown in the movie theaters," Lynton said. "Therefore I would disagree with the notion that it was a mistake."

Lynton's response came just hours after a White House press conference where Obama criticized Sony's decision. >

Not to defend Sony, but they were going to see a dismal opening due to theater pull-outs. The owners of those theaters are the true cowards here, as I read it.

Still, Sony should have done the right thing and gone ahead with the release, if only to make a statement.

Forget the politics, Sony executives say North Korea comedy 'desperately unfunny'

(Reuters) - The comedy on the fictional assassination of North Korea's leader is "desperately unfunny" and would have flopped overseas if it had not been canceled, according to leaked e-mails of international executives of Sony Pictures.

Sony staff in Taiwan said the film "didn't stand a chance" in their market, according to the e-mails. Australian executives, however, enjoyed the film and requested lead actor Franco lead a promotional tour of the country.

in reality, he just responded to a question about Obama in the most moderate terms imaginable. This article turns it into "fires back". And when people only read the headlines that's a problem.

Ask yourself when the last time the Chinese government was the villain in a major Hollywood movie? Not because they're afraid of violent reprisal, just of losing lucrative business arrangements.

Every other powerful government on Earth is occasionally the villain in a Hollywood movie. Not China. Not ever.

They don't have much room to defend themselves.
