Accessible pool update: Repukes introduce the Pool SAFE Act (!) to block access

That's right, author Mick Mulvaney (R-SC05) titled H.R. 4256 the "Pool Safety and Accessibility For Everyone Act"! How very Orwellian of him. Basically, it lets pool owners get away with using portable lifts by request, even where they could build permanent ramps, and even for multiple pools, as well as quashing any lawsuits already filed.

The cosponsor list reads like a Who's Who of teabagger nuttery: Burton, Flake, Fleming, Gohmert, Paul , Pence, Joe "You lie!" Wilson, and the incomparable Allen West.

We pretty much break even and estimate this would cost about $16,000 to implement (technically, we need 2 lifts under the law). In essence, implementing it would bankrupt our pool and force us to close it. It is nothing fancy, just a small pool in a 50 year old neighborhood that is supported by enough of the neighborhhod to keep it open.

This IS a big deal to many small operations like ours.

The regulations are subject to an "undue burden" defense, so any hotel or pool owner that cannot afford to come into compliance need not do so immediately.

Way to go, AAPD. Set up your website to make it as hard as possible to spread your message.

The OP mentions building permanent ramps....which leads me to believe zero depth entry pools would be exempt?
