This little girl is a survivor -spare a thought for her today

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/police-girl-survived-ky-plane-crash-27973521
<snip>
The plane had reported engine trouble and lost contact with air traffic controllers shortly before the 5:55 p.m. CST crash, authorities said. About a half hour later, a man called 911 and told dispatchers that a 7-year-old girl had walked to his home in Kuttawa, Kentucky and said she had been involved in a plane crash.

The girl had walked nearly 1 mile, through thick piles of brush, in temperatures that were less than 40 degrees before reaching the home of 71-year-old Larry Wilkins.

"This girl came out of the wreckage herself and found the closest residence and reported the plane crash," Patterson said. "It's a miracle in a sense that she survived it, but it's tragic that four others didn't."

Patterson said the girl was the daughter of the two adults who died in the crash, Marty Gutzler, 48; and his wife, Kimberly Gutzler, 46. Also killed in the crash were the girl's sister, Piper Gutzler, 9; and a cousin, Sierra Wilder, 14. All were from Nashville, Illinois. The bodies have been recovered and sent to Louisville for autopsies.

A guardian saw dollar signs from the accident and swooped in and cut off contact with the other side of the family, causing the poor kid to stop eating. I hope this girl's situation is different. so sad

I can't tell for sure but it looks like there is another sibling in the family picture. I hope that there is and they can draw comfort from each other.

I was 50 and he was 83. I am still not over it. I can't fathom what this little girl is going through.

Thanks, I hadn't heard that. I was guessing from the picture. I'm glad they will have each other. But sad yet another child lost so much.

I lost my Dad 16 years ago tonight. I was 44 and he was 78. Not a day passes that I don't think of him (I was a "daddy's boy&quot , and some days the hurt is still raw and painful.

His parents were hit head on by a drunk driver, and died instantly. Fortunately for him and his brother, they had an amazing pair of paternal grandparents who 'stepped up' and raised them. His grandparents were educated and enlightened enough to realize that he and his brother might need and benefit from counseling, and obtained it for the two of them.

Seven is pretty young.
I have a good friend who survived a plane crash in the Black Forest in Russia - he was so glad to have been able to return to his wife and son that he has never suffered from survivor's guilt.
The aircraft broke on crashing and he happened to be in the tail section - close to 30 of them survived.

To walk all that way through bad terrain shows one brave and tough little girl.

It's amazing everyone else on that plane were hurt enough to die but she just had minor injuries. I've been wondering since just how this could be, the logistics of it. But in the end I guess it's just another example on what a crap shoot life and death is.
