The United States Department of Labor has gone to court to force the operator of a former Bradenton private school to pay some health care costs for staff members.
The staffers were left with nearly $14,000 in unpaid medical bills after the defendants The Children's Place Inc., its employee benefit plan and its administrator, Hendrik Lamprecht failed to send employees' contributions to health insurers, according to a lawsuit filed by the Labor Department Dec. 30 in federal court in Tampa.
A message left for Lamprecht for comment was pending return.
Lamprecht became the majority shareholder of The Children's Place, an independent, for-profit college preparatory school for grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, in October 2009, the lawsuit said. The school operated as Bradenton Preparatory Academy and The Prep Academy, according to several accounts in the Bradenton Herald and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
