Are We Headed Back To The DIY & Back Alley Abortions Of The Past W/New Conservatism.

We so many state legislatures now in control of radical GOPPERs women are faced with starker choices. It looks like the assault on women's reproductive rights will be even more aggressive, punitive & sadistic than ever.

saw many of my friends go through the agony of having to get an illegal abortion. I think any lawmaker, especially woman lawmakers who want to go back to that time shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a legislature.

Those fucking preachers are going to learn all over again why their elders were on the legalizing side, they'll be called in to ERs too many times in the wee hours because one of their parishoners, usually a woman who had as many children as she could cope with, is dying of sepsis and blood loss from a butcher job.

The only sin those monsters recognize is sex and mostly for women. As the reality of their ole time religion is brought home to them by butchered daughters, sisters and wives, some of them will find themselves questioning the absolute certainty that women are meant to die for the sin of sex while males go on their merry way.

Bottom line: antiabortion laws kill women. Abortion will go on, it will just be illegal and deadly.

Can still recall the horrific horrific images she saw on a daily basis. Safe access to abortion saves lives.

for the wealthy. The not wealthy are already finding their choices diminished and some are already likely doing DIY and back alley.

No walking through anti -abortion picketers for them.

I have cousin who was an obstetrician's nurse for many years. She talked about all the (air quote) "D&Cs" that he performed.

I have little doubt that access to abortion services will continue to erode. I'm going to sound extremely sexist here, but when you have laws made by a bunch of old white guys--with little to no memory of what it was like to be fertile--you will see a bunch of bullshit laws handed down that cater to the loud minority--the anti choice crowd.

What I also have is a belief that women will never ALLOW a return to the times of widespread back alley butchers and coat hangers in a motel room. I think what we'll see, if it ever gets to that point, will be women's groups quietly practicing things like "menstrual extraction" for very early pregnancies or even setting up a sort of "Underground Railroad" that will help women get to providers where abortion is still legal. I think that we'll see a lot more information available about using hormonal supplements to trigger a "delayed" period, or even bootleg groups bringing in RU486 from other countries.

I think women are no longer willing to cede control of childbearing, and I think that there is a militancy now that was lacking in the days before Roe V Wade. None of it will be as safe as the clinics we have had, but I think that there will never be a return to the attitudes of the old days.
