Elizabeth Warren: 8 ways to restore the middle class

"The average family not in the top 10% makes less money than a generation ago," said Warren, a Harvard bankruptcy law professor who was elected to the Senate in 2012.
Here's what Warren says should be done about it:

1 Raising the minimum wage so no one should work full-time and still live in poverty
2 Supporting the right for workers to bargain together
3 Enforcing labor laws so workers get overtime pay and pensions that are fully funded
4 Giving equal pay for equal work
5 Protecting Social Security, Medicare and pensions
6 Investing in roads, bridges, power grids, education and research to create good jobs in the short run and help build new opportunities over the long run
7 Making sure all Americans and corporations pay a fair share to build a future for all
8 Having trade policies and tax codes to strengthen the American economy, raise living standards and create jobs

The only problem is getting these things accomplished with republicans in charge of the House and the Senate. It was hard enough getting things done when they only controlled the House, now it will be worse. If we can vote out republicans in 2016, put a democrat in the WH, then we can start working on these things. If republicans keep control of one or both branches of congress, nothing will change, and if they keep control of both and put a republican in the WH, well I don't think I have to explain how bad that would be for this country.

Contrary to what some here on DU may say, both parties are NOT the same, and voting out republicans is a must if we want any change to come.

Elected Democrats need to unite to save the middle class, ans our democracy.

We also need to eliminate the practice of large corporations having a Headquarters mailbox overseas and using that as an excuse to not pay taxes. you should be taxed on the business you do in the USA, regardless of where you plant your flag.

The downside to your proposal is we currently tax businesses on what they do anywhere, not just the USA. Hence the incentive for inversion.

For Warren, the devil is in the detail.

That's the Warren we need to get to know.

“There is nobody in this country who got rich on their own. Nobody. You built a factory out there - good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory... Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God bless! Keep a hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

We need to clean the House and Senate, and rewrite the Constitution to bring it up to date on forbidding the crimes against the People, so that 6 senile old men aren't deciding things they don't believe in.

That's all the super-rich want to do, beat their own personal high scores. Billions? Tens of billions? Hundreds of billions? That much money isn't real to anyone, even them. It's just a number on a scoreboard. They don't do any good with it. They hardly use any of it to enjoy themselves. They just like counting it, and making the next deal. It's an addiction, and they act exactly like addicts do, doing the worst things imaginable if it will get them their next fix.
