‘Homeopathic’ dog medicine at Petco calms hyper puppies by getting them drunk

"Over 400 people have signed an online petition demanding Petco pet stores remove a dog “calming” medicine that contains 13 percent alcohol, 7News Denver reports.

“Good Dog” by Pet Organics claims to “support emotional balance in your dog with this homeopathic, natural aid.” It is a “water additive…made from a combination of four flower essences known for soothing properties, including helianthemum and impatiens.”

But as the petition’s author, analytic chemist Yvette d’Entremont noted, it “also contains 13 percent alcohol as a preservative.” Despite the fact that alcohol is listed as an “inactive ingredient” on the label, d’Entremont demonstrated that the effect of the alcohol was, in fact, quite potent — even on an adult human being.

According to The Pet Poison Hotline, “even small amounts of alcohol, especially in small dogs and cats, can cause life-threatening toxicity.” Petco is aware of this fact, as a December 30 tweet indicates

Petco is now doing a voluntary recall of the product. Here is a link to the original petition with a video showing the effects of the product on Yvette d'Entremont.

I even had trouble concentrating long enough to balance my checkbook. Having ADD didn't help matters.

I eventually found that working puzzles, reading short articles, and playing online memory games restored some of what I had lost.
Good luck.

and the alcohol "calms" dogs by getting them drunk - thereby disguising the fact that the so-called active ingredients have been homeopathically diluted to the point where they aren't really there at all. And the dog owner thinks the product is effective, not realizing that the reason the dog is "calm" is because he's gotten shit-faced and passed out.

Means there's hardly any alcohol at all in what the dog ultimately drinks -- only two hundredths of an ounce of alcohol.

That pretty much qualifies as homeopathic -- no measurable effect.

Yeah, this is potentially dangerous if people dose their animals with the entire bottle undiluted, but mostly it's a waste of money.

Also, if it were homeopathic, there wouldn't be even a molecule left of the stuff.

you have a mean drunk of a dog. Then it will get mean and bark at you while is slobbers.

In truth I have heard of mean drunk dogs. I think that is how my neighbor stayed pleasant to her husband, who was a nice guy except wouldn't drink with her. I took her key away so she would not sit my dog while I was at work because she was feeding my dog screw drivers (actually let the dogs drink from her glass ehhh have you seen where that tongue has been?) and they they were pretty damn high in alcohol for a 30 pound puppy. Worse for her itsy bitsy dog! Also I noticed there was alcohol missing from my house and who knows what else.

Homeopathy is just unmitigsted bullshit, ie water.

Booze is actually a pretty effective sedative.

But they should advertise it as such.
