Spirit Airlines Refuses to Issue Refund to Dying Veteran

Jerry Meekins, who is battling cancer, has a new foe: Spirit Airlines.

Meekins recently purchased an airline ticket from Spirit Airlines to visit his daughter in New Jersey. "Two weeks after I bought the ticket, I found out I was terminal," Meekins, a Vietnam veteran, told NBC affiliate WFLA-TV in Tampa, Fla.

Meekins says his doctors advised him not to fly. But when he asked Spirit Airlines for a refund, they refused.

When contacted by WFLA-TV, Spirit Airlines issued this statement: "Our reservations are non-refundable, which means we don't do refunds and we are not going to issue Mr. Meekins a refund."

I made a terrible decision to fly Spirit to a wedding in Mexico... They lost my luggage, customer service lines were down for a week because of a "new system", never got my luggage... No refund.

They never refund, and they don't care. Every employee that works there seems miserable... probably from their lack of ability to do anything when dealing with angry passengers.

I need to stop writing now, because I'm getting super angry just thinking about them.

People buy the cheapest non-refundable tickets and then are shocked they can't get a refund.

That's why the tickets are so cheap.

If they are aware he is in the last stages of cancer they know he won't be a repeat customer so in their eyes they don't have to do anything for him. They will drag out the process until he is no longer around to do battle with them. His only hope may be now that his story hit the TV news and now the internet Spirit may want to do something solely for the sake of their image.

Damn I hate airlines.
