A weapons expert who worked with Dr David Kelly at the Governments secret chemical warfare laboratory has been found dead in an apparent suicide.
In circumstances strongly reminiscent of Dr Kellys own mysterious death nine years ago, the body of Dr Richard Holmes was discovered in a field four miles from the Porton Down defence establishment in Wiltshire. It is not yet known how he died.
Mr Holmes, 48, had gone missing two days earlier after telling his wife he was going out for a walk just as Dr Kelly did before he was found dead at an Oxfordshire beauty spot in July 2003

(45,788 posts)Don't walk the plank like I did
You will be dispensed with
When you've become inconvenient
Up on Harrowdown Hill
Where you used to go to school
Thats where I am
Thats where I'm lying down
Did I fall or was I pushed?
Did I fall or was I pushed?
And wheres the blood?
And wheres the blood?
I'm coming home
I'm coming home
To make it all right
So dry your eyes
We think the same things at the same time
We just cant do anything about it
So don't ask me
Ask the ministry
Don't ask me
Ask the ministry
We think the same things at the same time
There are so many of us
So you can't count
We think the same things at the same time
There are too many of us
So you can't count
Can you see me when I'm running?
Can you see me when I'm running?
Away from them
I can't take their pressure
No one cares if you live or die
They just want me gone
They want me gone
I'm coming home
I'm coming home
To make it all right
So dry your eyes
We think the same things at the same time
We just cant do anything about it
We think the same things at the same time
There are too many of us
So you can't count
I was lured into the back of Harrowdown Hill
It was me lured into the back of Harrowdown Hill
I was lured into the back of Harrowdown Hill
It was a slippery slippery slippery slope
It was a slippery slippery slippery slope
I feel me slipping in and out of consciousness
I feel me slipping in and out of consciousness
I feel me...

(6,384 posts)I was inclined to hold Tony Blair as the government leader of the time responsible for David Kelly's death, but it seems that it doesn't matter who's in power the shadowy figures who operate inside MI5 make up their own rules. And any leader who didn't back them up might meet the same fate.
I hope his family and friends scream about this as loudly as they can.

(24,411 posts)I believe that he was murdered, just as Kelly was, but how do they commit these crimes and get away with it? Do they wait for the person to leave the house? How does no one see anything suspicious?

(2,479 posts)Highly trained, have a plan, and help. (assuming it is a crime, and not just suicide). You've always got to leave that window open a little bit. It has to be a depressing job, figuring out ways to destroy all, or parts of the whole human population. Even dentists tend to have a high suicide rate--imagine their profession.
Still, I'd have to agree with an earlier post--it seems to be dangerous work, to be a top expert in any military field, or scientific endeavor that involves the ability to kill massive numbers of people.

(9,213 posts)About the guy dying of cancer, so he turns into a Meth cooker?? Great show. Anyways, seeing as how the main character Walt is mixed in with some pretty scary people, and is hiding most of the gory details from his family, when I read this it totally reminded me of at least a few occasions on the show where he left his house thinking he would never see them again, and knowing they would probably kill him, yet he had to go to his wife and just say "I'm gonna run to the store" or something.
It's really sad and humanized it for me, that this guy probably knew they were after him and whatever the final straw was broke and he just had to go to his wife and give her a kiss and his kids and tell them goodnight, he was "going out for a walk" knowing they would never see each other again. It's the middle of a field, that seems like about the best way to get away with something like this.

I hate to be but these days, anyone of a high profile that dies suddenly gets filed in my conspiracy file box. My friends laughed when I talked about the BFEE-Iraq-Contra deals years ago, but they don't laugh as much any more. And all this NSA listening and warrantless wire tapping that is going on...My RW friends do not seem like nut jobs any more either. Politics is not right or left like they would have you to believe...it's circular. And they are playing us for chumps.

(65,616 posts)look at the information posted at those URLs...the BFEE is alive and well and like you said, building a private army in their compound in Paraguay. For what purpose? I bet they host all kinds of nefarious corporations there like Blackwater (whatever name they are using now I know they've changed it AGAIN).

(101,316 posts)Sue Holmes husband Richard, 48, went missing from his home in Monxton Close, Bishopdown Farm, on Wednesday, April 11 and his body was discovered two days later.
Reports in national newspapers last week linked his apparent suicide to that of Mr Kelly, who was found dead in Oxfordshire following controversy over a discussion on weapons of mass destruction with a BBC journalist.
Mrs Holmes, who also works at Porton Down, said: There is absolutely no connection to what happened. Its just very sad that he equally felt he had to take his own life in the way that Richard did.

As opposed to the experts of DU whose sole knowledge of the man comes from an article in British tabloid, which doesn't actually have any indication of a connection beyond them being friendly when they worked together two decades ago.

(9,114 posts)But she also has a daughter to be concerned about. If the worst suspicions of the DU 'experts' are well-founded, the surviving loved ones could be expected to back the official story, to keep other loved ones safe.
I understand that could come off as a type of circular logic, or 'believe what you want' logic. You may be right, maybe the death isn't suspicious. But outsiders would see the same stories either way.

Not for one tiny second did I buy the premise that David Kelly offed himself before his daughter's wedding.
