How did Rachel lose so much weight?

I'm asking this in all earnestness...not being flip. I watch her every night so I don't really notice such things day-to-day. But when she cuts away to some segment she taped a year ago - hell even three months ago, she looked bloated (back then) by comparison. And now she looks hot...even though she insists on dressing like a boy and wearing blue shoes off set.

Point being, I as a heterosexual male am still in love with her, weight or no weight.

Other point being - what's her secret? Is it a pill (that I can buy at GNC?) Is it no midweek drinking? I've scoured the intertubes and can't find anything that alludes to it.

If you know something...please elabourate.

We are ALL attracted to other people by their appearance. And no one, including the OP, suggests that Rachel should change her appearance. It was an observation, not an attack.

Rachel is a beautiful person. And the the OP says that over an over again. It was merely an observation that they would like to her wear something they feel is more appealing.

Rachel chooses her outfits based on her personal preference. I don't think anyone is suggesting she shouldn't do that anymore.

She can change how she looks OR she can be judged as doing femaleness badly. Nobody likes to be thought less of, or to have a part of their identity denied them, so this narrow definition of what femininity looks like demands that many women change their behavior or risk criticism and damage to their self esteem. While I'm sure that Dr. Maddow doesn't give a flying fuck what the OP thinks of her outfits, that sort of language is used to reinforce societal expectations on other women and to shame them for any deviation.

Further, she's been apparently healthy, proportionate and attractive the whole time, so the OP's focus on her weight loss (which is so minor I haven't personally noticed it, but I'll take his word for it) is equally disturbing.

I doubt she's all that concerned whether you think she looks "hot," either. As for the "dressing like a boy" nonsense, again, I can't see how what clothing she chooses is of any importance.

Rachel Maddow is a political commentator, and a very good one. I watch her to listen to her words. Her appeal to me is that she gets to the heart of the matter quickly and explains her point of view very well. That I agree with her on almost everything she says also plays a role.

Fantasizing about television personalities seems to be to be a waste of time.

editor's note: Ashley Judd’s 'puffy' appearance sparked a viral media frenzy. But, the actress writes, the conversation is really a misogynistic assault on all women.

A snippet of Ms. Judd's response:

I won't even respond to the "dresses like a boy" comment. Oh wait, I will: you do get how offensive that is to many of us, right?

Women currently get 5x the scrutiny. Men and boys are having increasing rates of eating disorders. Perhaps.we can ramp up the.'does he look hot enough or is he too scrawny' type talk (cause as you know... It's just a red blooded American thing to do), and see if we can make pectoral implants as common as boob jobs.

Even though I'm a gay woman, I still think he's kinda hot, even if he does wear those girly pink ties and French cuffs.

I mean, when was the last time anyone ever say someone post or say something like this???

56. What does your sex preference have to do with her weight loss?
Thu Apr 26, 2012, 10:38 AM
Apr 2012

Are you implying in a round about way that her weight loss is tied into her being a lesbian?

If you really scoured the intertubes and found no answer, what makes you think there is an answer other than the one you should be explaining to us about why you'd ask this troubling 'innocent' question?

Watch her everyday and admire her smarts and her clothes.

I like the way she wears clothes that make her look impressive and ready to talk Business .

Some of them dress like Barbie Dolls and have no IQ of worth.

68. You claim to be "in love" with Rachel.

So, that would indicate to me that you watch her show and have some sense of what Rachel Maddow is all about. So do you think Rachel would like being called "my girl" or being told she "dresses like a boy"?

With all due respect, get a clue.

Seriously, did you even read what you just posted?

I'm sure you did and thought this would go over like a lead balloon. Congrats on your successful mission.

"dress like a boy"

objectifying

insensitive weight characterization

"blue shoes" - whatever the fuck that is

And finally....

"Point being, I as a heterosexual male am still in love with her, weight or no weight." - Thank god you tipped your hand there as I would have been left to wonder. But here, let me clean that last part up for you.

"Point being, I as a clueless, self-gratifying, hedonistic heterosexual male will still judge her, weight or no weight."

I'm not surprised by the 2-4 result, but I'd like to see whether the four pro-sexism jurors left comments

OP in six words: "Rachel looks great...what's her secret?" If Ed Schultz becomes svelte, expect the same question. Thanks DAWGS for getting it.

Still love DU - apology accepted.
