Small protests also occurred outside the speech, where Georgetown students held up signs that read, Stop the war on the poor. Catholics United, a progressive group, unfurled a 50-foot banner asking Ryan, Where were you when they crucified the poor?
As ThinkProgress has noted, Ryans budget appears to ignore Catholic social teaching, and religious leaders, including the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, have criticized its cuts to programs that help the poor as unjustified and wrong. The backlash is similar to what Ryan faced last year, when religious leaders hammered him for adhering more closely to the policies of anti-government, anti-religion author Ayn Rand whom Ryan said inspired him to entire politics than to the teachings of the church. Ahead of todays speech, however, Ryan walked back his admiration of Rand, saying, I reject her philosophy.
(end snip)
That's the only reason Ryan R-moron flipped on his Ayn Rand idolatry. He had to face the music with the bishops today.

heart just bleeds for him, doesn't yours?

He was inspecting the nails, to see if the points had been properly hammered down.
There was a rumor going around AM radio that the government of P. Pilate had overpaid for inferior hardware and tolerated shoddy woodwork. Poor quality nails go noodly in wood, and lazy government workers don't really care how well they drive them in, so that they pull out easily. But Paul Ryan is on top of it.

This isn't about ignoring or neglecting the poor. It's about getting rid of them through starvation and deprivation.
