The Senate on Thursday passed the Democrats version of the Violence Against Women Act by a 68-31 margin.
The GOP-led House is set to pass a scaled back version, in which case the two chambers would have to sort out their differences in conference committee.

So if someone would be so kind as to indicate how many of the Nays are in races this fall? That kind of vote can't help their chances.

(37,540 posts)This was a no-brainer vote and they had to have known how their female republican colleagues were voting on this. There was no way they couldn't have known that they were going to lose this vote...and their "no" vote just helps underscore the problem the Republican Party has with women. It really should have been 99-0 in favor of this legislation. Instead, they lost the vote and added yet another talking point for Democrats to use in November. Well played, morons!

(40,416 posts)There will usually be a Senator voting against a bill when there is likely to be a reconciliation with the House. That is why Reid will occasionally vote against a bill that has strong Dem support.
Silly Senate rules, some would say. I am not sure I understand it, but it happens.
