Cornhusker assistant football coach: It would be "an honor" to be fired for homophobic views.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/ron-brown-nebraska-football-coach-anti-gay-views_n_1455712.html

Nebraska Cornhuskers assistant coach Ron Brown has come under fire for publicly expressing sentiments some say are anti-gay, but he insists he'll continue to speak out against homosexuality.

In March, Brown, 55, testified against an Omaha anti-discrimination ordinance that extended protections to gay and transgender people, which prompted Barbara Baier of the Lincoln Board of Education to write to administrators at University of Nebraska–Lincoln to request the assistant coach's firing, the Associated Press is reporting.

"The question I have for you all is, like Pontius Pilate, what are you going to do with Jesus?" Brown asked at the time. "Ultimately, if you don't have a relationship with Him, and you don't really have a Bible-believing mentality, really, anything goes...At the end of the day it matters what God thinks most."

Brown -- who reportedly heads a Christian ministry called FreedMen Nebraska, hosts a show on a statewide Christian radio network, appears on a cable-access channel in Lincoln and writes a column for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' magazine -- now says he'd consider it an "honor" to be fired for his devout faith.

I think most everyone knows what Jesus said about homosexuals. That's why cafeteria Christians try to avoid the New Testament and solely pay attention to the Old Testament, while conveniently ignoring parts of the OT that they don't like, such as not supposed to eat shellfish, mix fabrics together, etc.

REASON FOR ALERT:

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Fri Apr 27, 2012, 03:33 AM, and voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT ALONE.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Sorry but plenty of homophobes are straight - this sort of comment is offensive in the extreme and should not be tolerated.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: This exact statement has been posted on DU many, many times...take the Ted Haggard scandal for example. Whether it's "bullshit" or not, it's not "disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate." The only "bullshit" here is the alert, another waste of fucking time from a wannabe neighborhood watch captain.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: "bullshit" is not a persuasive argument for censorship.

how many juries I have been on where the person complained simply because they didn't like the opinion. I was on one where someone said basically "guns don't kill people, people do". Now, weather you agree with that or not, there are plenty of pro "gun rights" DU'ers. Someone complained and said "that's a right wing talking point!". What a total abuse of the "alter system" as is the one above.

The republican party is full of them. Pretty much every time you see a GOP politician or minister obsessed with gays, he turns out to be gay.

As such, it is fun to ridicule them for that and I think it serves a good purpose.

Now to actually and factually assert that EVERY HOMOPHOBE IS GAY, would be factually incorrect. Weather or not it's "offensive" is a different story.

That being said, any time I see a minister rail on and on about gays, I assume he is gay, and usually I turn out to be right. I don't think I am the only one here who has that opinion.

But I can see how you'd think so. There are some homophobes who are gay/bisexual, but to assume a homophobe is "secretly" gay is lazy. I hate to break it to you, some homophobes are just homophobic because they are complete and total asshole BIGOTS; plain and simple.

you voted to hide it because you interpreted the post in question to be suggesting it is a bad thing to be gay?

However, it could only be suggesting the coach will turn out to be a hypocrite which is not an insult to the gay community.

in the anti equality and slander parade. Rather than own his crap which is consistent with the message coming from much of the sports, religious and political worlds from heterosexuals speaking as heterosexuals. He's one of theirs. They need to deal with that, for they produce many many such hate mongers.
So the real issues is not an insult to us, it is the end run around their own part in the cycle of discrimination. Some straight hater speaks hate, the straights say 'another thing, the worst of us are really gay'. So they slander, then they claim it is our own, not theirs, doing the slander.
And they skip the part where they say 'I'm sorry my culture is so unjust to you'.

Matthew 6:5-6

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

Omaha recently passed legislation that added GLBT people to its anti-discrimination ordinance. Ron Brown attended a city council to speak against the proposal. He gave his address as Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

Anyone who has ever lived in Nebraska knows that Husker football is akin to religion. Giving the stadium as one's address when making outrageous, political, bigoted comments was an overstep. UNL officials had to come out and disassociate the university with their employee's opinions. Brown should be fired.
