Human beings always seem to have to wait until after disaster before we do anything. Will the GOP deny global warming even after the Statue of Liberty is under water. I may already be too late to do anything.

1. Evolution fine tuned our brains

to react to the tiger leaping from the bush, or the rabbit about to escape from spear range. As a species we only know how to react to threats that are literally right in our face. Long range planning is a learned behavior, it's not instinctual. And even then, short range problems overwhelm the coping mechanism, so when the gas tank is getting low and it's still three days till payday, that's way more important to us than something as abstract and invisible as global warming.

2. Action will wait until profits from fossil fuel no longer sustains political protection.

If there are still profits to be made when the Ganges runs dry and Washington DC give up cars for gondolas, then your young'ns will have to wait a little longer.
