This is one big puppy.
A 17-month-old, 173-pound pit bull is making headlines today for being just that: A 17-month-old 173-pound pit bull.
A video of the dog was uploaded to YouTube by canine breeders Dark Dynasty K9s, who specialize in large pit bulls.
They hope the viral success of the video will soften peoples views of the oft-misunderstood breed.
They wanna use hulk all over the UK to promote positive message for the pit bull in all the largest newspapers! Dark Dynasty K9s wrote on Facebook. Anyone knows the U.K. has a very backwards look at these dogs so changing things like THIS is what its all about! Cant express the joy this brings me! They wanted to use this video which couldnt explain it all better!
The dog, nicknamed The Hulk, is being called the worlds biggest pit bull.

(32,886 posts)not make me feel good about Pit Bulls.
Dogs and cats are predators. What keeps them from viewing humans as food in general is nothing more than size. This is a bad idea.

He does not look cute and cuddly to me.

That is quite an amazing dog.

(2,273 posts)Not exactly sure why they are trying to breed dogs that large, takes up a lot of space, a lot of food and I can only imagine the poops he drops. It would be like having a pony to take care of.
That's the sad part---that dog will have all kinds of medical issues.

(2,273 posts)It really looks like they bred Mastiff and English Bulldog into a pitbull and you are getting all the negatives from the three breeds.

(2,273 posts)Has all the features of a Mastiff and only slightly larger than a lab, beautiful dog. She hopes her small size will let her live longer.

(813 posts)He has all the great features of the Mastiff without the slobber. He's 100 lbs and a little finer boned due to the Boxer in him. He is pushing 10 and still going strong, without any major problems yet. He's the best dog I've ever had. There are tons like him at rescues and shelters that need homes. I found them on Petfinder. I was looking because I know big dogs don't live long lives and I wanted to see if there were any like him. Love this dog!

(108,991 posts)Perfectly calm, nice dog -- that crept around like she was about 100. Drooling all over the place. I couldn't believe she was only 4. I guess for this breed she was already elderly.
My poodle-lab mix had to be put to sleep after he developed cancer at almost 13 -- and even on the day he died, he could move around better than the 4 year old Mastiff.
And you're right -- it is heartbreaking to lose a dog. At 12 or 13 it's bad enough -- but to pick out a breed that's only likely to live to 8? No, thanks.

everyone reserves female pups.
Watch now, in a couple years the stray 'pitbulls' that fill the humane societies across the USA will be over 100 lbs because of these 'breeders'.

(534 posts)The shelters will be full in the future of these large dogs because people can't handle them or afford to feed them.
I have 3 rescue dogs and this pisses me off!!!

(22,651 posts)Those dogs will break this fence down someday soon and be loose in the neighborhood. or the wind will blow it down. Spend some of those puppy thousands on a decent fence.. 'breeders'

(21,786 posts)The pit bull terrier is a banned dog breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, along with the Japanese Tosa, Fila Brasilero, and Dogo Argentino. It's possible that it can be registered in some cases, but importation is out of the question.

(30,947 posts)My son breeds English bull dogs and the puppies are very well taken care of until they are sold. He has a large kennel which is heated and cooled for the adult dogs. The puppies are always kept inside the house with their mothers.

(108,991 posts)who breed carefully for the healthiest dogs, test breeding dogs for known genetic conditions, send their puppies out already neutered, and choose the new owners carefully. Responsible breeders also require purchasers by contract to return their dogs if something happens -- so their dogs won't up in shelters.

(41,210 posts)Whatever the merits of the ruling in general, I think it makes sense not to allow pit bulls of this size. It's a mauling waiting to happen. Most dog owners could not control such a dog adequately.
Not to mention that it's setting the dog up for health problems. Generally speaking, dogs of very large breeds don't live as long as smaller dogs at the best of times; and a dog bred to be so abnormally large is probably going to have serious problems and to die young.

(5,946 posts)about 15 years ago I lost my 15 year old border collie when she started drinking water like crazy and must have put on 10 pounds that day then went into seizures and I had to find someone to help me lift her into my car to go to the vet. On the 4 of July as the fireworks shows were on. I could not find anyone until the show was over and then the roads were backed up all the way to the one vet opened that night in the state. took me 4 hours (took me 2 hours to get off the beach island alone) and she died like 10 minutes before we got there, so I have a rule now, no dog bigger than one I can carry.
Although I did kind of love the 6 foot tall (on her rear legs) 13 year old pit bull in the shelter, a very old age for a dog that size. The year I worked there I would always stop for a hug during the day, the first meeting was an accident, I thought the stall was empty until she ran over so excited to see a person in with her, but she was just so appreciative of any attention. She was lean though and had a much smaller head, I think was no more than 100 pounds.

(2,674 posts)I had a neighbor who let his pit bull have puppies and then did not take care of them. I took the runt of the littler. I have had her for almost 5 years and she is a sweet, loving dog, provided she knows you. I think she would bite if a stranger barged in our house. When we take her out on the street, we always have her on a leash. Thankfully we have a big back yard with an 8 foot chain link fence so she can see what is going on and get plenty of exercise. I live in a rough area and I like having an aggressive dog, I used to own a Bouvier and she was a great guard dog, but her coat was high maintenance.
My pit bull girl, Winnie, sleeps curled up by my legs at night. I have been under treatment for cancer and had some bad days and she was always there to comfort me. In fact, she is down on the floor by my feet right now.
I got her fixed so she can't have puppies, I get all dogs fixed no matter how much I paid for them (My Yorkies and Bouvier were not cheap).
