February 9 2015 at 11:27am
Paris - An ultra-rare Ferrari that once belonged to actor Alain Delon and was discovered rusting under a pile of old magazines on a French farm fetched 14.2 million euros (R186 million) at auction on Friday.
The Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder - one of only a few dozen ever made - went under the hammer at the Artcurial auction house in Paris.
It was up for sale alongside a treasure trove of rare classic cars found on the farm in western France last year after lying forgotten for half a century.
The cars, described as sleeping beauties by the auction house, were all being sold in the state they were found, having been kept in makeshift shelters by an enthusiast who had planned to open a car museum.

It was in the West of France that the team from Artcurials collector car department made an extraordinary discovery. Forgotten for almost fifty years, the team at Artcurial found some 60 automobiles originally curated with devotion in order to create a private museum that would pay tribute to this great human invention. This unique collection will be offered for sale at the Artcurial Retromobile 2015 auction, scheduled for 6th February in Paris.
Matthieu Lamoure and Pierre Novikoff from Artcurial Motorcars share with Sports Car Digest about what it was like to find this incredible collection.

That Ferrari a beaut, but no car is worth $14.2 million. That's probably because I'm not a filthy rich jerk.

None of your linked articles include the model year of the Ferrari. ...guessing none of these articles were written by actual 'car people'....Google says it was a 1961...

(37,449 posts)these stories make it seem like no one knew the cars were there. I guess thats why they were so anxious to sell them.
