GOP Infighting Begins As Clock Ticks To Homeland Security Shutdown

WASHINGTON — The intra-GOP recriminations have begun over the party's failing strategy to stop President Barack Obama on immigration as the clock ticks to a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security in 17 days.

Stymied by repeated Senate Democratic filibusters, the Republican hardliners are blaming party leaders for not fighting hard enough, while House and Senate GOP leaders point the finger at one another to find a solution to the impasse.

"We've had a week on it. We've had three cloture votes, all of which have not succeeded. It's clear we can't get on the bill. We can't offer amendments to the bill. I think it'd be pretty safe to say we're stuck, because of Democratic obstruction on the Senate side," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters Tuesday. "I think it's clear we can't go forward in the Senate. And so the next move, obviously, is up to the House." Translation: The ball is back in the House's court.

That's not sitting well with Speaker John Boehner. The Ohio Republican is standing by the House-passed DHS funding bill and his office responded to McConnell by saying Tuesday there's "little point" in further House action until there's movement in the Senate.

Deport millions of people that make them uncomfortable because they think like 9 yr olds AND help cause another 911.

A 911 they could blame on Obama, forever ending any possibility of a good legacy for the President ( in their minds anyway )

I believe this the way I believe warm days are warm.

To the Wing Nut and Flying Monkey Brigade of the GOP, the President's legacy ended the night he was elected in 2008.

I was just reading something (not this thread) and I had to say that.

The white people who have so many uninformed opinions about others, amazing.

Kinda makes you wonder if there is any hope at all anymore.

But Don, it is up to you and me and those we know who understand what is going on, to never give up, never make excuses, and ultimately realize that our very lives may be at risk for our beliefs.

Between the hatred of Jews, Muslims, African Americans, Gays, wow...and it is everywhere

I feel like I'm peeing into the wind. I've been doing this for 50+ years now and it lately feels like that wind is of hurricane force. I can take some consolation that we've raised four sons who are anything BUT a member of the anti-Jew, Muslim, AAs, Gay and the rest.

The ideology is all that matters. The country doesn't matter. The people don't matter. The planet doesn't matter. Only the ideology matters. They are obsessed with it.

WTC level event would get those war juices fired up. I don't think the GOP really want the DHS unless they get their way in other matters.

It was called a necessity after 9/11. It was a scam then, but has proven useful for a few things. What would replace DHS if it ceased to function? And who would benefit from that or anything DHS currently prevents?
