Omaha power plant developer Tenaska says opposition to a proposed Pennsylvania electric generating station has moved into dangerous territory.

The operator of natural gas-fired plants nationwide filed court documents in Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland County last week that said people belonging to a group called Stop Tenaska Westmoreland Project have made threats against company officials and posted defamatory comments on social media sites.

The request for a judge’s order barring such conduct also said opponents obtained personal details about company officials that were transmitted via social media, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which first reported the matter. Physical threats were also made, according to the filing, the paper said.

“After failed attempts to raise regulatory or judicial impediments to Tenaska’s plant, defendants in their apparent frustration turned to an angry, confrontational and illegal approach aimed at stopping the project and Tenaska, through intimidating, harassing and threatening,” says the company’s request for preliminary and emergency injunctions.
