Poll: Pennsylvanians want Joe Paterno statue restored at Penn State by overwhelming majority

A new Quinnipiac University poll shows an overwhelming majority of Pennsylvanians support the restoration of the controversial bronze statue of Joe Paterno to Penn State's campus, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The poll shows a whopping 34-point margin in favor of restoring the statue (59 percent of respondents to 25 percent), which was removed from its previous site near Beaver Stadium in July 2012, some eight months after the late, legendary coach was dismissed in the midst of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

Even less surprisingly, Pennsylvanians also overwhelmingly approved the recent legal settlement between the NCAA and Penn State that restored Paterno's vacated wins and once again made him the winningest coach in FBS history.

Never mind that he was the man-in-charge of the program, and that his failure to know about Sandusky's activities defies credibility. They want JoPa's sainthood restored.

that for so many people football seems to matter more than the fact that Paterno's dereliction of responsibility as a human being even in death. Yes, most people are not just the worst deed they do. But covering up for somebody who preyed on children is pretty slimy. It's not cheating to win at a game, which is obviously a rotten thing to do. He looked the other way when his friend was assaulting kids.

And especially in light of the quote that is right next to the damn statue. Paterno held himself up as some sort of force for good that he had a responsibility to make the university better. He failed miserably and yes he should be remembered for that failure.

But could not have a logical, non emotional discussion about JoPa.

if they had such an idol as JoePa.

Proud to say I did not go to Penn State and would not send any (potential) children to that place.
