http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026191367His mother was equally grateful to the strangers who showed her son kindness.
'They could have just sold my son a tie,' said Najirah Parrish. 'But they took the time, helped him tie the tie and talked to him. They treated my son with dignity, respect.'
They also gave him real world advice to help him get a job.
'I did step-by-step what he told me,' Moore said.
It worked! Teen, who was touchingly shown how to tie a tie by a Target employee before his interview, lands the job... and plans to buy a thank you gift with his first paycheck
Yasir Moore has successfully completed the hiring process with Chic-Fil-A
He was hired on Friday and intends to buy the Target employees a gift
Moore went to Target to buy a clip-on tie for a job interview
Since they were all out of clip-on ties, he bought a regular tie
Store employee Dennis Roberts offered to help him learn to tie it
He was also given a pep talk for his job interview and it clearly worked

(9,126 posts)It's not that hard to be kind or treat people with dignity, but some choose not to. People like these are wonderful role models. I wish Yasir the best.

They really couldn't NOT hire the kid.
Good for him, he will do well.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)he is the kind of kid that the chicken franchise hires. Chick-fil-a around here has the best service of any fast food joint bar none. Not to mention the cleanest bathrooms. White, black, hispanic, pretty girl in a hijab, or the folksy grandpa who waits on us - they are all groomed well, neat, and very polite. And obviously well trained.
We don't always have to think the worst of people, you know.

(3,212 posts)on some issues, I agree with you, especially there stand on marriage equality.
Otherwise, our local Chic-Fil-A is the cleanest and nicest fast food place around. Just like other fast food places, I'm sure they all vary.

(63,208 posts)As I promised, I acknowledged my error in-thread, as I was all along willing to do, once the story was confirmed.
It was never claimed that the story couldn't be real, by the way. The issue was that so many were unwilling to imagine that it might be false.
Congratulations to him, and I wish him the best of luck.

(62,270 posts)Another choice quote by you include you saying it "conveniently portrayed a corporate monolith as an oasis of human compassion."
No regard to the workers who were sharing an everyday experience with the world and it just so happened to go viral. There are probably tens thousands of incidents like this every day. This is just one that happened to get documented and go viral.
Watch this guys video to see interactions like that, when he goes to retail locations: https://www.youtube.com/user/laoshu505000/videos

(63,208 posts)Why are you trying to portray me as dishonest?
After all, you're the one who made a false accusation in that thread and have so far refused to admit it.
Unless you can cite the post in which someone "literally" claimed that the Target employees were operatives, of course.

(65,616 posts)is the difference between a DUer and some anonymous username - is that DUers can actually be skeptics AND admit they are wrong when something is proven true.
Thank you for being a DUer and not just some anonymous username that is never wrong. Like the fella you are reply to, Mr. never been wrong eva...

(51,308 posts)Gosh, can we not give credit to those who are willing to admit wrong?
I was suspicious of the whole thing too.
We've been proved wrong and that is a very good thing!

(45,437 posts)Whether its real or not, this boy was obviously helped by those workers.
And it is possible that the workers are normal decent people who did something good on their own, and then the company heard about it and promoted it as a feel good story. That happens in a lot of workplaces and there's nothing wrong with that.
People don't normally shop for ties at target and it's got to be a very tiny part of their business.

(3,212 posts)I would consider Chic-Fil-A the best fast food restaurant for a teen to work around here. All the kids are pleasant, and the atmosphere is very friendly without being over the top fake.

(11,833 posts)Glad there's many nice people out there too, like those folks at the Target. Sometimes we can get all riled up about politics & stuff. Humanism & friendliness goes a long way toward making the world a better place locally, personally. Bravo to all. Good luck Yasir.

(35,667 posts)Good for Yasir and for his entry into the world of work! I'll bet the employees who helped him feel pretty good about that.
Yes, I remember the original post and all the suspicious minds who thought this was a publicity stunt by Target. I find that degree of suspicion disturbing. That's a side of DU I wish didn't exist.
