Romney: 'Even Jimmy Carter' would have ordered Bin Laden raid
By Seema Mehta

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Mitt Romney on Monday rejected claims by President Obama’s campaign that he would not have ordered the killing of Osama bin Laden.

“Of course, of course,” he said, when asked by reporters whether he would have gone after the terrorist. “Even Jimmy Carter would have given that order.”

The Obama campaign raised the matter over the weekend, roughly one year after the president ordered the targeted killing of the terrorist leader inside of Pakistan. Advisor Robert Gibbs said on Sunday that it was unclear whether Romney would have taken the same action if he had the same intelligence.

“Look, just a few years ago, President Obama – then a candidate – said in a speech that if we had actionable intelligence of a high-value target in Pakistan, we’d go in and get that high value target,” Gibbs said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Mitt Romney said that was foolish. He wouldn’t do such a thing. That he wouldn’t move heaven and earth to get Osama bin Laden.”

carter essentially DID make a very similar decision, to launch the mission to rescue the hostages in iran.

of course, that mission was an abject failure. i've never seen anyone ever identify anything carter could have or should have done differently, though i've heard plenty of republicans claim that a republican president would have somehow succeeded. i guess sandstorms and helicopter problems don't happen when there's a ficticious republican president (or a real obama) in the white house.

But the guy who ran away from Florida and hid for 3 days after 9/11, the guy who called off the Bin Laden ambush at Tora Bora, and closed the Bin Laden unit, the guy who attacked the wrong country is a macho role model.

The RRRRRs have it all wrong. As usual.

Miit seems to forget that Carter ordered the rescue attempt that ended in disaster in the Iranian desert in May of 1980. Carter is a Naval Acadamy Graduate who understood what it took to put men in harms way. This is just further proof of a man who is truly living in the past as far as his foreign policies ideas go. Carter has done more good in one day then Romney will do in his lifetime. The problem with Romney attacking Carter is that Carter is liable to bite back. It is beyond me how anybody can take Mitt Romney seriously.

The Secretary of Defense under George W Bush. I rather doubt that.

Bob Gates advised Obama not to send in the Seals.
