Peter Slen of C-SPAN

"Should Democrats make a political issue out of killing Bin Laden?"

I was very tempted to call in. Just like most other networks, C-SPAN was carrying water for the Republican Party.

Ed Gillespie, campaign manager for Mitt Romney, started the question rolling on MTP yesterday. It was obvious to even the most dense of ogres what he was attempting to do. He knew this was one area where President Obama is very strong and he was attempting to bury or minimize the issue about killing Osama Bin Laden.

It is expected to see people like Morning Joe and FOX News carry the water for the Repubs but it was a little surprising to see C-SPAN do it so blatantly.

One caller, a Repub, called in to say Obama did nothing. It was like an umpire at a little league baseball game. All he does is say, "Play ball". Peter Slen never questioned any of his callers. He never added any context or fact to the comments that were made. And neither did any of the callers while I was listening. However, I suspected Slen had facts at his fingertips if he had wanted to inform his viewers?

Surely he knew that Bob Gates, and several other top military advisers, advised Obama against sending in the Seals to take care of Osama Bin Laden. This was the same Secretary of Defense that George W Bush had when he was wreaking havoc in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Also, it had been reported that General Cartwright and VP Biden also were against sending in the Seals. It was not an easy decision. It was not the same as telling a group of Little Leaguers to "play ball". And Peter Slen knew it and decided not to inform his viewers otherwise.

He also knew that George W Bush used the "Mission Accomplished" sign on the carrier for political purpose but not once did I hear him mention that little factoid. He was carrying big buckets of water for the Republicans and it was very disappointing...
