Fox News host, whose stories of past reporting exploits are under renewed scrutiny, claimed we were attacked by protesters when covering the 1992 riots
Former colleagues of Bill OReilly, the Fox News host whose tales of past reporting exploits are facing renewed scrutiny, have disputed his account of surviving a bombardment of bricks and rocks while covering the 1992 riots in Los Angeles.
Six people who covered the riots with OReilly in California for Inside Edition told the Guardian they did not recall an incident in which, as OReilly has claimed, concrete was raining down on us and we were attacked by protesters.
Several members of the team suggested that OReilly may instead be overstating a fracas involving one disgruntled Los Angeles resident, who smashed one of their cameras with a piece of rubble.

(11,495 posts)O'Reilly isn't so smart as he thinks. Every time he denies he made things up, more people are going to dig up all kinds of things he has lied about, and his problem is that there is one hell of a lot of things he has lied about over the years. The man is stupid as hell if he things he is doing himself any good by lying about his lying!

(322 posts)a) Roger Ailes supports him wholeheartedly and will do nothing (no suspension, etc.) other than claim O'Reilly and Fox News are victims of liberal media bias.
b) O'Reilly stays in the limelight longer, generating more viewers and/or media attention to his show. Remember that bad news is better than no news.

(6,918 posts)Yeah, O'Reilly should have just landed on a carrier and declared "mission accomplished" after his trashing of Brian Williams. See what happens when you can't just shut up?

(48,955 posts)From here-to-forward there is a Bill O'Rielly game after each show, speech and book. Everything stated as if "he experienced it" - gets rewritten as he saw a photo of it. Until he can prove it, he has just admitted that when he states that he witnessed something can mean he saw a photo of it.
Bill and Fox thrive on emotionalism. The emotional impact between "I witnessed this brutal event (and I was in danger)" versus "I saw a photo" (then as a journalist, share the photo), has a different effect. He has just invited editing of every claim made forward. In short, he has just invited endless mockery.

The Killing of Lincoln Book ..... lies Ford's theater dropped it because it was so wrong
The Killing of Jesus Book .... Bill said on a 60 minutes story that "God had awoken him in
the middle of night and told him to write the book." My guess is that is a lie too but Bill's
viewers will see all these stories about his lies as attscks on him because he speaks the truth.
Bill has a show coming out this spring called "legends and liers" on Fox .... my bet is that
project will be put on hold.

(4,033 posts)is that O'Reilly ratings just keep going up and up, because the Foxbats choose to believe that he is the only one telling the truth and everything else is just a libural plot to get him because he is in the 'no-spin' zone.

...Yes, Dan'l Webster's dead ----- or, at least, they buried him. But every time there's a thunderstorm around Marshfield, they say you can hear his rolling voice in the hollows of the sky. And they say that if you go to his grave and speak loud and clear, "Dan'l Webster ----- Dan'l Webster!" the ground'll begin to shiver and the trees begin to shake. And after a while you'll hear a deep voice saying, "Neighbor, how stands the Union?" Then you better answer the Union stands as she stood, rock-bottomed and copper-sheathed, one and indivisible, or he's liable to rear right out of the ground. At least, that's what I was told when I was a youngster.

Some people are self deluded.

Ah, hell. Poor fuck. The need to assuage his own ego is so pathetic.
He had to call out others for lying and demanded consequences. What goes around....comes around.
The bigger they are the harder they fall is not just a proverb about lumberjacking trees.
Ya fookin' lie yourself up, a skyscraper of tall tales, and somebody pulls the bottom out,
yer gunna crash.
I want to gloat about this misfortune as much as anybody but it makes me a shitty person, too.
We should try not to be shitty people. You can see how instant Karma can be.

(38,437 posts)1) Those who have watched O'Reilly tell lie after lie for years and no longer care. This latest revelation is hardly news.
2) Those adoring fans who want to be lied to and just don't care that he's been caught.
Bottom line: the energy being spent is going for nothing.

And why has it taken so long for all of this to bubble to the surface? At least we can tell our wingnutty friends and relatives that if there really were a liberal media we would have known all this crap years ago.

(19,288 posts)He is entirely disingenuous. An inflated ego blown up with hot air and no substance. Habitual liars are not trustworthy and they are con artists. He is an oily used car salesman, set out to misinform and mislead while, looking wholesome, well scrubbed and wearing a nice suit.
He's rather like the sexually objectified Faux, female news anchors, all Barbie'd up, in that respect.

I remember in 2008, he repeated over-and-over saying to Obama (from his show, not actually to him) "There is no such thing as a capital gains tax" to suggest Obama is being misleading but O'reilly was the one being misleading.
