Drone strikes, main reason of Pakistani anger at US

Amitabh Pal, the managing editor of The Progressive spoke to Press TV's U.S. Desk on Monday about the impact of American drone strikes in Pakistan.

"There are two questions here, one is the narrower question of civilian casualties and definitely, you know, there is a great study out by a London based non-profit called Bureau of Investigative Journalism and that estimates that hundreds of civilians have died in the past some years since 2004, or so I believe, so there is that narrower question of whether the civilian toll has been taken by these drone attacks.”

"The other is the broader question of anti-U.S. resentment that has built in these countries because of these attacks and for example in Pakistan, the number one area of disagreement with the U.S. is this whole drone program and the reason that Pakistanis are angry at the U.S., the main reason, is this whole ongoing drone operation, so even if you were being able to eliminate some terrorists, in the broader context, you are actually building up more anti-U.S. resentment. So I think that in that sense, they are counterproductive and of course the civilian toll makes them very questionable.”

Considering how much anti-US sentiment has increased in Pakistan, wouldn't it be wiser to cease the all the drone strikes before it the blowback, partly developed as a result of drones strikes and other aspects of US foreign policy, motivates more people to resort to committing terrorism against the US?
