http://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnn-has-completely-given-up-on-the-meaning-of-breaking-news/Over the past year, weve seen CNN use its Breaking News Chyron to report that solving the missing MH370 plane mystery could take years and to tell us that the Titanic sunk 102 years ago, among other less than urgent stories. But this latest example just might be the best Breaking News ever.
After Washington, D.C. police banned sledding on Capitol Hill during todays snowstorm, CNN sent Joe Johns out into the cold to report on the parents and children who were boldly defying those rules:

(131 posts)..but that's only part of the problem. What constitutes news at all, breaking or not, seems to be sort of forgotten by today's "journalists".
Then there's the little problem of veracity. Many years ago, when I was in the military, I was a participant in something that made international news.
To make a long story short, when we got back to the base, I happened to read about it in a newspaper. My friend who also participated showed it to me. I had to read it a second time at his insistence before I realized they were talking about us. And I was there when it happened. It should have won a prize for fiction.
And somehow, I doubt that things have improved this many decades later.
How do you tell when a journalist is lying? They start publishing things.

(3,474 posts)We'll be watching CNN and he'll say something like " wait...it's Breaking News..." like it's going to be something big. He does that all the time and I just laugh. It's never anything. Cracks me up.
