Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is returning to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to help kick-start a campaign to expand criminal background checks to all commercial firearms sales, a move which is expected to be fought by Republicans in the House and Senate, as well as National Rifle Association.

Breitbart’s link on that news was posted by the NRA on Facebook. Also, it’s on NRA News’ Facebook page. Comments poured in, with many calling for Giffords to be shot (again).

While commenters discussed how dumb liberals are, one guy suggested voting her out. Giffords left office due to her injuries. We are so dumb!

for all the crocodile tears and other BS the NRA and others said after she wa shot, a truth remains. The only problem they had with shooting Gabby Giffords is that no one offered her a cigarette and a blindfold first.

...and you can probably add "doomed" to that as well. And it's not just the NRA that makes me think so, though they're major contributors to my point of view.

People have become so truculent that if you dare to disagree with them, or think of touching their particular sacred cow for the common good, they want your blood. Unless you're standing at arm's length from them. Then they become temporarily docile. But not for long.

Add to that a total inability to endure discomfort, being easily frustrated and outraged if they can't have what they want, and a near total lack of any self-reliance and ability to cope with hardship outside of their accustomed comforts and conveniences.

You can't solve problems in an environment like that. This planet is beyond fixing unless something changes. And it would take something pretty hair-raising to shock the human race into pulling together to fix things.
