People should be able to choose between the military, education, the national parks, things like that.

I think if the American people considered the fate of their own family members, we might have a more rational thinking public when it comes to foreign policy.

I have had fights in public with people close to me on this topic. I would not want to send my son to war for oil. Further, when you consider the drugs they pump into these kids to keep them from losing it, the multiple tours, we as a nation need to have our heads collectively examined!

Either reinstate the draft or vote in politicians who take human life more serious.

If you can't trust congress to use the military they have, what the hell does giving them more bodies to misuse do?

The main reasons I've heard for a draft are predicated on the assumption that somehow having a draft, having access to more young men and women, would somehow cause congress and the war machine to use them better, care for them better than they do now. I disagree strongly with that notion.

For those who say people need to have a personal involvement to prevent going into wars or misusing the military, if their kids are involved, how does throwing more young men and women into the mix help that? What? They'll vote for Democrats that will pass laws to help those in the military rather than misuse them? Seriously? How many families who currently have people in the military vote republican, REPEATEDLY vote for those who continue to misuse and hurt their family?

Finally, congress will never ever make a fair equitable draft that the rich and powerful can not get out of. It seems energy is better spent trying to get them to not commit troops unnecessarily and to take better care of them than trying to get them to pass a fair draft.
